Hey guys, my first post here in this forum!

I just bought a n80 from Hong Kong and is really happy with it, it is such a pretty phone.

However, I heard that the phone is compatible with GPS seeing that nokia sells one on their own too. I have a TomTom Bluetooth GPS device that works on my Dell PDA. Is it possible to get it to work also on my N80? What software do I need?

I went onto youtube once, and they said that i need to update my macromedia version or something, is that right? will updating it allow me to watch videos?

Also, I am confused, but is there an update for the n80 bought from Hong Kong? I can't seem to find the same update as you guys did on the UK Nokia site.

If you already have a bluetooth GPS receiver, it should work with the N80. The only software you'll need is some form of mapping or navigating software. (there are several available for the N80, depending on your requirements)

Can't help you with the firmware update stuff or the Macromedia question, sorry.

N80 only has macromedia flash lite 1.1, which is basically crap, you need flash lite 2 for better web integration, but unfortunatley flash lite 2 is not available for the N80..and not sure if it will be .. you have to keep checking the macromedia flash lite website and see if the N80 becomes supported.

Also make sure you have the lates V4 firmware, because there was a bluetooth problem with the V3 firmware which made gps unusable for extended periods..

I think best bet for you to upgrade your firmware is to go to a nokia service center...or maybe carphone warehouse and ask them to upgrade your firmware, as your phone is I assume not a network specific phone I think they should just be able to upgrade your phone with the latest generic firmware..

Do Carphone Warehouse do firmware upgrades? I thought this was a NSC specific action.

prom what I understand CPW do firmware upgrades...but maybe not all of them

Judging from the large CPW near me they may have an engineer instore who does upgrades but will require the phone to be left with them (not sure how long for) - no "while you wait" service. Alternatively they will send it off for updates (up to 2 weeks!).

Personally I'd try and find a small independent NSC - they seem to give better service from what I've heard..

I can't comment on the actual service from either of these but my impressions over the phone were that CPW and some NSCs knew very little. I did find a small independent NSC who let me speak to the actual engineer and he seemed very on the ball.. In the end I went down the naughty Phoenix route 😃 with my SIM free model.

thanks for the info, but do you mean I need a mapping software that can search and connect to the GPS? Right now, I pretend to send a picture to someone and I can scan my GPS device, but I have no way to connect with it. Can you guys recommend any software for the GPS? I live in Edmonton Alberta, Canada

I've been looking for months typing N80 GPS software into google but haven't found one...anything for Edmonton or Hong kong would be sweet!

Thanks

See on makers sites, like: Wayfinder, Navigon, Route66, Tomtom, Nav4all, and others, if they have a good map coverage of your area.
