Battery Compartment - Help!

5 replies · 2,865 views · Started 13 October 2006

Just recieved my P990i from expansys, mysteriously with a European plug, which I'm less than chuffed about before I even start.

Anyway, I can't get the [Censored] Battery Compartment open, I know some people say it's stiff, but this is utterly ludicrous - I've spent the last 45 mins trying to open it.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some way of getting it open, or does it look like my unit is faulty?

Certainly never had this problem with any other phone, including the p800, p900 and p910.

It's certainly not easy. Good side is that it won't fall off! You just need press really firmly downwards with clean fingers so that their pads will not slip at all. Once you've done it once, you'll get the technique.

Hehe, in a bout of desperation I ended up popping to my local Service Centre where they managed to get the cover off - no idea how I'll manage if i need to get it off in future though O_o.

Got it working, charged, flashed with the latest firmware (thankfully managed this with the sim in, as I can't get into the compartment to remove it).

After all the doom and gloom I'd read, I was worried as to what I'd find when it finally booted up, but aside from the hang at language selection the first time and the aforementioned battery compartment problems it seems pretty nice (though it took me a while to work out where the old drop down menus are now).

I've managed to retrieve the internet and MMS settings for Three UK, but I notice their website refuses to work - has anyone managed to get this bit working again, or since they're not selling the p990i yet am I stuffed? If so, has anyone got a URL for it as mobile.three.co.uk just comes back "Blocked".

Next job, some apps! 😛

Thanks

Delighted that you got sorted but you should practice. You'll need to do it sometime and won't be able to. Like if you need a new SIM Card for some reason.

IME you should only put the apps on you're going to use. Some of the big games - like the bundled Golf game quite literally won't run unless you turn the phone off and back on again. There are other examples. Install Swiss Manager!

Have fun.

Hehe, yeah, the SIM issue could be quite pressing, I hear that 3 can get funny with people putting sims in non-3-approved phones 😡

As for the bundled software, same as ever, first thing I do after SEUS is get rid of the demo, included video, etc. Shame Swiss Manager's not a patch on the old SMan (though it's appreciated that they made a free version, just wish it had an autostart option).

what i did initially was , i got hold of my friend
i pushed form the upper part of the back cover and he pulled from lower end using his fingers over the little butting at the lower end...
after a few times it eased out and now i can remove alone
