Caller Id Display Not Working on Incoming Calls

5 replies · 14,757 views · Started 16 October 2006

Greetings,

This morning I upgraded to the latest version of PC Suite and proceeded to synchronise my phone contacts onto my PC, just as I have done several times previously since I got the phone in May. Unfortunately, ever since I performed the synchronisation, Caller ID for incoming calls from other mobiles no longer works, it simply displays the incoming number. Calls from landlines display the Caller Id correctly, as do outgoing calls to both mobiles and landlines.

I've tried the following, to no avail :-

  • checking for duplicate numbers in my contacts - none exist
  • backing up, deleting & restoring all contact data
  • creating a new mobile contact

I've wasted the best part of this afternoon looking for what will probably be an obvious answer, but as yet, I've found nothing.

My phone & software details are :-

V 4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (58.01)

Windows XP (SP2) & PC Suite v 6.81.13.0
Phone connected via USB cable

Any help solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Paul

Hmm... have the numbers in the phone been changed to the +44 format? I know that if I send a text through PC Suite it uses this format and so when it synchronises the message with the phone the outgoing message shows the number rather than the person's name. Which is quite annoying.

Sorry for the vague answer, best I can think of at the moment.

Thanks for the reply.

I've got a mixture of 0... and +44... numbers in my contacts and have tried editing them between the two formats, to no avail.

One interesting thing that I've noticed is that mobile numbers stored with +44... actually display as 0... on an incoming call.

See the above thread. The suggestion is that somehow PC Suite has duplicated some of the numbers during synchronisation so that a contact has the SAME number stored two or more times. Edit the contact using N80 Contacts app and if you see the same number more than once, delete the extra ones.

Hope my description makes sense! 😊

Although I went through my contacts a couple of times and didn't spot any duplicates, I think you're right about PC Suite causing a glitch somewhere.

I completely uninstalled it and then re-installed an earlier version (6.80.22) and then restored a backup to my phone and it is now ok. The same backup restored using PC Suite v 6.81.13.0 causes the "no Caller ID" problem.

Cheers for the replies.

Glad you managed to find a way around it.

Incidentally, I am using PC Suite v6.81.13.0 with no problems... so far!
