PC Suite not finding P990i, mRouter & SEUS do!

18 replies · 27,027 views · Started 22 October 2006

I've read with interest all the ups and downs people are having.
My problem isn't with the phone as such, but getting it connected via USB to my XP Pro SP2 laptop.
No way does PC Suite for Smartphones (latest version v1.2.15) want to see my p990i (Orange).
mRouter finds it and gives info on it (connected to 3G etc).
The How to Connect Wizard never finds the phone. Is this therefore a Symbian drivers type of issue?

I eventually found the USB setting on the phone and set it to disk mode (rather than phone) and the MS Duo shows up in Win Explorer/ My Computer no probs. This re-assured me that at least soemthing is working on the communications front.

But when in DIsk mode or moreover in Phone Mode, PC Suite has no joy.

I notice Com 8 & 9 are assigned to SE 990.

Strangely, against the run of play, the automated SEUS seemed to work fine, although it tells me I have the latest software installed.

I have done the recommended uninstalls, hard resets, rebooting, reinstalling, reconnecting etc (methodically as being in IT I'm used to this pedantic way of working), but am now stumped. After a weekend of ignoring the missus I'm risking being ridiculed for my new worktool (aka Toy). Am I missing a setting or something?

Occasionally, as I have gone on, when the software is installed on the laptop, on disconnecting the phone from the USB cradle or cable, there seems to be a BSOD kernel panic briefly and the laptop reboots.

I realise we are early in this phone's life, but hope that someone here might be able to suggest a remedy.

BTW - I adore the p990i - it's fabulous, although I bought it knowing there is at least a firmware release or two required - like me and Ducatis, often the best things are not perfect! Seems a FW update is scheduled for week 48 (last of Nov), according to Steve Litchfield (and he's a guy who tends to know!).

UPDATE:
Tried another (freshly reinstalled) XP SP2 on a different laptop and all worked fine.
I wonder if it's either some software or security on the original laptop - AVG AV Pro? MS Defender?
I'd still like to get it working on my other laptop though! So, any ideas anyone? Thanks.

Hi any luck yet?

I received my P990i yesterday, and have been trying to connect to my Dell D420 all weekend, but no luck. Bluetooth, USB nothing. Wifi via my router does work though!

Could it be a Symantec internet security issue?

The PC suite for smart phones just doesnt do anything since it says: no phone connected (which of course is not true, it's connected with the USB).

Appreciate your help, Jan

No luck yet, I'm afraid.
Works with another PC, but not my JVC Mininote mp-xv841.
I hope an updated PC Suite might resolve it. - if one comes out.

Could it be a Symantec internet security issue?

Yes it could. go into the firewall settings and add programs. Go in C drive program files and find a file "intuwave" in there you will find the mrouter comunication exe. add this and you should then be OK. :icon14:

Thx, indeed it was the firewall (simantec). So now USB cable works.

Next: bluetooth. Connection configured an accessible via XP, but the Sony Software says it is NOT connected....

I have the same problem which is "unable to load configuration" . I tried almost everything which I found after google the problem . I did like

uninstall PC SUIT then restart and then Install it again and restart
I followed each step how to remove SE PC 990i from registry , local settings and etc

I even uninstall my Symantec ,windows defender and other anti- spy, virus but no luck

what I observed is when I install this pc suite for p990(from the PC Suit CD) in any other system means first installation on any system the application just works perfectly.

Please help me how to solve this problem because I need to Install the application on the same machine on which it was working before

TIA

Hi guys

I actually used the SE PC suite for a few weeks, then out of a sudden, it refused to detect the phone.

I rmoved it & reinstalled it again about 4 times including 2 of the last PC Suite version & yet no connections can be made furthere more, mRouter is not installed at all and I don't know why.

is there anywhere I can download the mRouter from ? I already tried intuwave.com with no use, tried also http://developer.intuwave.com/Downloads

but it seems that this domain is not up

Any Help???

I've had this same problem. Usually reinstalling the PC suite has worked, but since just before Christmas even this didn't work.

Now after holidays, I did uninstallation, rebooted, then manually removed (if no uninstall exe file was found) all files left from Program files > Sony Ericsson > Mobile4, and also from Program Files > Common Files > Intuwave + Teleca shared and \Program Files > Symbian > Shared > SymbianConnectRunTime (I wonder if that was all...). Anyways, I removed everything that had anything to do with m-Router, Teleca or SE PC suite.

In some phase some dll refused to uninstall, but this was due to that some exes related to these software were still running. So terminate the executables found in the same directories as the files you are deleting.

Then I rebooted.

Then I ran CCleaner and removed all invalid registry entries related to these programs.

Then I rebooted.

Then I downloaded the new version 1.1.15 of the PC suite for Smartphones.

Then I rebooted, closed the wireless from my laptop, disabled the antivirus and firewall.

Then I installed the PC suite (no USB cables attached!).

Then I rebooted.

Then I attached the USB cable (phone attached to it too) and the drivers were then installed to the PC for the phone. Maybe I also rebooted, do not remember any more...

After this I enabled the antivirus and firewall and reconnected the wireless network.

This was done last night, and the PC suite is still working. Hopefully for a long time....

fyi i followed PeteASJP method - except for disabling firewall/virus cause I can't ... its a corporate laptop

still no joy though ... and the whole intuwave / mrouter folder isn't even there ;-(

and of course pc suite says mrouter aint there either

spent another frustrating hour w HiWired hoping they could get mrouter installed but also no joy

positive development though was the com ports stay enabled now (refer my post in thread "My FM Radio switches off and I can not use synchronization" ... can't post URL as i'm a newbie to forum

so i give up and reluctantly assume its cause of the firewall/virus protection settings BUT something tells me its more remnants of the P900 pc suite screwing me up

I have had this problem often and here are two solutions. Either one has always worked for me:

1. Unblocking the usb connection in Symantec anti virus.

2. Running a registry cleaner like RegVac after an uninstall of PCSuite.

Hi everybody,

I had experienced the same difficulties as most of you describe here in this thread. My Toshiba Tecra S2 laptop (Windows XP SP2, no WIDCOMM stuff, McAfee Virus Scanner) did recognize the P990i in fast data transfer mode only. But in phone mode nothing happened, although the laptop's hardware did recognize that the phone was attached to the USB port.

After installing and uninstalling the Sony Ericsson PC Suite for a couple of times without any improvement, I finally found a solution on a German language forum that worked. It goes as follows:

1. uninstall the PC Suite
2. reboot your PC
3. remove any files folders under C:\program files\ that have not have been removed during uninstall (namely: Intuwave, SonyEricsson)
4. start regedit.exe (from Start --> Run) and search for "mRouter" in the registry. Delete every single entry you can find for "mRouter". This is a annoying and time consuming process since you have to remove a couple of hundred entries in your registry
5. reboot your PC
6. install the latest version of the PC suite (1.2.15)
7. reboot your PC
8. attach P990i via USB cable in phone mode and - surprise, surprise - it is recognized by the PC and I can now snychronize with Outlook

Since I've got a corporate laptop, I could not disable the McAfee virus scanner. But as you can see, I worked out fine for me. I hope this will solve your problems as well.

Best regards from Germany,
Thomas

Try this one:

0. Unplug the USB cable/BT
1. Close PC Suite
2. Close mRouter
3. In task manager, kill the following processes (if there):
-Generic.exe
-mRouter***.exe (three executables)
-Symbian.exe (SYMBIA~1.EXE)
-SCBAL.EXE
-SynchIndicator.exe
4. Run PC Suite
5. Select Tools > mRouter configuration
-or similar, I have got a non-English installation
6. Plug in the USB cable

Sometimes, in step 3, it is also necessary to close down the Outlook, and make sure to kill it from the task manager too if there.

Well "Oh my G-d I don't believe it", but I have just connected my P990i to my Sony Vaio (XP Pro SP2) using bluetooth and synchronised! After three hours of messing about, this is how I finally did it.

Firstly, I turned all anti-virus and firewall off. I have since turned it back on and all still works fine so whether this helped or not I don't know. Then I installed my PC Suite software.

This is where things may differ on your machine. I launched my bluetooth management software and followed instructions to pair/connect my P990 with my laptop. I used the default port (port 40 I think) to do this connection and set it up as a Serial Port (mRouter) connection. Note that you may have to select "Custom" set up or similar to do this.

Next, I right clicked on the mRouter icon in my system tray and selected "Advanced Settings". In order for the connection to work, you must have "Additional COM Ports" and the port you selected in the previous step in this list. If you don't have it, click the "View" button in the Additional COM Ports section underneath, select your COM port and add it.

At this point, my machine magically connected with my phone! You may have to click on "how to connect" in PC Suite to launch the connection wizard and click next until you get to the part wher it searches for the connected phone. You may also have to manually connect your phone in your bluetooth management software and make sure this doesn't disconnect again (timeout) before you run the "how to connect" routine.

I probably won't be monitoring responses to this post as I am not a guru and seemed to make this work by sheer luck but I hope it is of help to anyone who has suffered similar problems. If you follow the procedure, have ammendments or in any other way make it work, I encourage you to register as I did simply to post this information, so that others can avoid the teeth pulling!

Good luck!

After experiencing all of the above problems, and trying all of the above solutions (without success) I still cannot connect using the PC Suite. And now mRouter has disappeared and will not re-install.
I have tried the Intuwave developer site, but I need a username and password to login to get a new copy.
Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Tim Johnson

i helped someone with that problem before. his p990 worked on my laptop but not his so i reinstalled his XP and it worked for him as well. so for my case its definitely an XP configuration that i missed initially. you may not want to go through all that trouble though.

Sampe probs here...found this sln in another forum:

uninstall PCSuite
REBOOT
reinstall PCSuite
REBOOT
search "mrouter" in win search
install mrouter installer
REBOOT
run PCSuite (!dont connect phone until told to do so!)

should run by now

good luck!

I still can not synchronize... I gave up.. wasted hours and hours. I had the P900 and now I have the P990i. It is the last, the very last time I buy a Sony Ericsson phone. No doubts. Enough of this nightmare of PC Suite and all these reboots and install / uninstall. Bye bye Sony Ericsson... I will actually try to sell my phone on eBay and buy a Microsoft OS phone as a replacement. Enough BS for me... no thanks... 1.2.15 and so on, no thanks.

I share your frustration and gave up in the end as well. Obviously not enough users had the same issue - could be an XP prob, but MS don't really want to know. ActiveSync never gave me so much grief - nor, I should say (since they were the forerunners of the Symbian era), did my old Psion 3s and 5MXs etc, we had the occaisonal glitch, but they were remedied.
I am bemused by the lack of support from SE, and severely disappointed.
Trying to synch online with Orange has lost me my phone content twice now as well.
Word documents cannot be read in the main and it takes too long to find and view the calendar entries.
The Mermory Stick has saved me - I back up to one and load mp3s and mp4s on it using a card reader. Soeakerphone's OK, as is the camera - but a smaretphone that is reputedly top of the range should be flawless and bugs fixed.
I'll probably give the Apple iPhone a go when it arrives in the UK.
