I am piloting a Nokia e62 for my company and I am running into some issues. This is my first Symbian OS device, so please forgive my lack of symbian knowledge.
I used the device out of the box for a few days and it was great. I just had to get used to the navigation. I then loaded and currently run Good Mobile Messaging on the device. Good performs very well on the device.
Here are my issues:
1) I cannot perform a hard reset of the device to erase all the data. (this concerns me as this is a pilot model on loan). I tried the reset feature in the menus and tried the code *#7370# and nothing. Any ideas?
2) While using the browser, I am getting a memory is full message. I tried clearing the cache and rebooting the device, but that didn't do much for it.
Thanks,
~DP

The proper way to perform a hard reset in S60 3rd edition devices is to reboot the device while holding down the Green, 3 and * keys (not as easy as it sounds). If the hard reset has worked, the phone should then ask you to enter the time zone once it's started.

The "Memory Full" error means that the phone has run out of RAM, not that it has run out of storage memory. So clearing the cache won't help. This is a common problem in all S60 3rd edition phones and is caused by 2 problems:
- Symbian phones (and i believe all smarpthones) do not have a virtual memory system like desktop PC have. Therefore, when an application requests more RAM than there is free, the request fails and you get the "Memory Full" or "Out of memory" error.
- Nokia has been very stingy with RAM on their S60 3rd edition devices such as the E62. Given what these devices can do, there simply isn't enough RAM in them. Unfortunately, you can not add more RAM in them just like you could do in your PC so you're stuck with that.
So the solution is to make sure that you are not running any other application in the background before using the web browser (so that you get as much RAM you can). You can press and hold the menu key to get a list of all applications running on the phone.
If you still encounter this memory full error, then try to use the commercial Opera Mobile browser instead (http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/s60/). I've been browsing the web daily with it for 2 months now and have only encountered the Memory Full error twice even though i often have 3 or 4 web pages open simultaneously. Plus it's a joy to use compared to the built-in web browser.
Referring to this specific paragraph from a previous post --
"The "Memory Full" error means that the phone has run out of RAM, not that it has run out of storage memory. So clearing the cache won't help. This is a common problem in all S60 3rd edition phones and is caused by 2 problems:

I have recently purchased the e62 and am about to send it back. In brief -- I have approx. 15K contacts in Outlook that I synched over to the phone -- only about 9900K came over and since then I am constantly getting "out of memory" messages -- I can't search the Address Book, I sometimes even can't do simple things like modify a Profile.
When I do a Check Memory on the phone -- it is indicating that I have 75MB of RAM free -- with no apps open.
I have contacted Nokia and they have escalated to Level 4 (Developers) -- I am sad as I love the phone otherwise but inability to handle my contact db and out of memory errors are leading towards a deal-breaker for me i.e. return of phone. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Nokia includes two browsers on its high-end phones, including the E61/E62. One is called "Web" and is capable of browsing regular Internet sites. The other is called "Services" and is capable of browsing WAP sites. Web was developed and is maintained by Nokia. Services is a re-branded Opera browser. Don't bother to buy Opera because you already have it! The two programs may be re-named by your carrier (MEdia Net, Web), but you do have them.
I haven't had any memory issues yet. Take elp's advice and make sure you don't have any running programs. Both browsers support multiple windows. Make sure you don't have lots of web site windows piling up. Unlike on a desktop, you won't see them!
@charlieb909
Your problem may be that you have 15,000 contacts on a mobile phone. You might consider a PDA or laptop if you really need to have access to all of your contacts.
MrSqueezles: Are you this stupid or are you just pretending to? Opera and "Services " are not, and have never been the same thing. "Services" is the old Nokia WAP browser. Opera is a full internet browser. It has been on the Symbian S60 platform since 2000, and is in the eyes of most people the best browser for the S60 platofrm.
Opera is also avaliable for Windows, Mac, Linux, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS etc. etc.
Indeed. "Services" on S60 3rd Ed. has nothing to do with Opera.
Some S60 2nd Ed. devices came with a version of Opera. Others in the past came with NetFront. This was market/region dependent, too.
9500/9300/9300i (S80 2.0) has an embedded browser based on Opera, though.
No S60 3rd Edition devices come with Opera or NetFront, but they all have the old S60 browser as "Services" and the new S60 browser (without WAP support) as "Web".
My only-a-month-old E62 S60 3rd edition device does not boot up - after it shows the Nokia logo while booting - it freezes with a white screen.
I tried to hard reset the device by holding down the Green, 3 and * keys while rebooting. But it doesn't have any effect on the device.
What is the correct way to do this?
Should I keep the Green, 3 and * keys pressed even before I power on the device?
How long should the 3 keys be kept pressed?
Someone please help. :frown: 😛cguru:

Yes, before power up. You need to keep them pressed until you are prompted to enter the city.
