Poor Frame Rate of TomTom 6 on N80

To all those who have TomTom Navigator 6 working on their Nokia N80

What whould you estimate your Frame Rate / Refresh Speed / FPS / Screen Update Frequency, is?

I get 1 FPS (yes, one-frame-per-second), sometimes 2 in the countryside. It makes the software unusable so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my phone (latest firmware, plenty of free phone and card memory, hardly any other apps installed).

I did wonder if it was a problem with my Bluetooth GPS Device so I ran a Demo Route and the Frame Rate was the same.

The refresh speed on my 6680 using TT5 was excellent, probably around 15 FPS.

What Frame Rate do you get?

This was discussed in another thread last month, and I think I was quoting about 4 FPS on my N80.

I compared it with an N70 where the FPS was more like 8.

I also compared it with the N73 with TT6 which was a couple of FPS faster than the N80.

I deduced (but cannot prove it) that the higher screen resolutiuon of the N80 compared to the N73 caused the low FPS. As far as I know the CPU and Internal Memory speeds are exactly the same between the N80 and N73.
Running the same route demo on an N80 and N73 - the N73 completes the route in 2/3rds of the time taken by the N80. Has to be screen resolution...?

By the way, the Read/Write speed of your Memory Card will also affect FPS, as TT6 writes temporary files to the card and reads the map data whilst on route.

What do you think?

I don't think that the memory card speed is the problem as every other function on the phone (apps, menus, and most noticeably photos) is now slightly quicker since I inserted the 2GB Integral mini-sd.

Looking at the N80/TT6 again, I should have tried it while I was writing my previous post, saying that it was 1-2 FPS was wrong, it is more like 2-4 FPS.

Still, after using a TomTom One and TT5 on a 6680, even 4 FPS is painful so I'm going to switch back to my 6680; N80 is going on ebay.

(I now wish that I hadn't updated my 6680 to the latest firmware and lost the Active Standby functionality.)
