A cautionary tale of woe re the Nokia online firmware updater.

This evening during a lull in the hostilities, I thought I'd try the firmware updater. Just to be on the safe side, I thought "I try my trusty emergency reserve 6630" acquired for a song a year back on eBay.

So I dutifully check everythings charged, I've offloaded & printed the FAQ and all the other precautionary stuff. Downloads and installs the updater. Now for the moment of truth...

The old software version was 3.45.113 dated 04/01/2005...

Plugs in the 6630, starts the ball rolling...

YES there is an update! Hooray!

So I press go and the updater chuggs along nicely, while I put the kettle on and make a cup of tea.

10 minutes later...

Success!! Yahoooo!! New software loaded without at hitch and 6630 has re-booted itself.

In with the PIN and the #!&$ Nokia soundbite only to discover...

DISASTER! 😮

The never-before-seen-on-this-6630 CURSED ORANGE HOMESCREEN!!! :hmpf: :icon13:

Oh woe and thrice woe!

My trusty 6630! what have I done to you?

OK, lets not panic - Nokia, I want version 3 and a bit back please...

Sounds like your 6630 was originally sold to Orange, and the Nokia systems remember this, so of course they then deliver the latest Orange version of the phone software (firmware).
