GPS receivers

I have just done a search on this forum before buying a GPS receiver (tomtom 5 mobile + 9300i).
Came up with loads of names (Nokia, BT 338, Holux...).
Nokia would be the obvious choice (same charger, same battery(?)) but difficult to find and performance?
Is there a review of the different receivers?
Evil bay has loads but choosing is difficult. Any advice welcomed

TIA

Reviving the thread...
Just received my tomtom mobile 5
did everything as instructed.
On launch, note appears after a few seconds:
"System:
Unable to find the specified object"

I think I'm gonna cry :frown: (bye bye love)

Things are going from bad to worse.
Now Tomtom tells me that they can't give me any support because the 9300i is not supported 😡

nj7, that is not totally correct.
TT still support Mobile 5. It is true they have stopped developping for S80.
But in that case the point is they claimed that although 9300i is S80, it is not "approved" by TT and thus they do not offer product support.
Things are (slowly) moving forward. I continue this thread so that others can find info here.
First thing is I could not start TT from short cut (see post 4) but it works when I use File Manager and open the App on the MMC.
I found a patch on another forum
http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24906&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=tomtom+9300i&start=0
downloaded it, it works and I can start TT with no problem.

However the application closes when it detects the TT GPS receiver.
I am going to reset and upgrade and will let you know

I said "I think"... Not sure at all. But on another thread, I read that TT now is only for S60 phones.

The new version (mobile 6) only works on S60
However TT still provides support for Mobile (1st version) and Mobile 5. It is only the 9300i that's excluded from the support.

We have success :trytofly: 😃
Apologies for all the old hands who must find this thread boring (I am aware that I am probably re-inventing the wheel), but it works.
Only thing to do after last post: pair the bluetooth receiver with your phone, (tools->Control Panel->Connections->Bluetooth->Paired devices.
You have to type a code for the receiver. That code is above the receiver when you launch TT for the first time and you select the type of receiver you have.

Once paired, works a treat.

I haven't upgraded yet and will not unless cornered like a rat in a trap (if it ain't broke, don't fix it!)

I may decide to treat meself to a pint in the local now

Yaeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee 😃

Glad it works... Now you should find another thing to tinker, bang head against the wall and fix (that's what I usually do, and it never ends) 😊

I'll be surprised if you can resist upgrading 😊
