Is it in anyway possible to check e-mails from a broadband e-mail account on my 7650? and for those who read my previous post i sorted it, thanx for the replies 😊

Yes it is! Its the same setting with outlook! It depends on the provider. Whys bb comany are u subscribed?

Maybe if you give more details of what didnt work, what you did , the settings u use etc.....if you using WAP etc we could help you more...

Well if you are a MobileOne user, you may wanna to apply the MobileNet access which is also a boardband GPRS internet connection. BUT you have to pay a price for it...... damn expensive..

I had once try to use it for a month and the phone bill shoot up to $200 plus just on the connection alone, have not include all the normal usage charges yet!

ok the settings i have are :

mailbox name = my mailbox
access point in use = o2 wap gprs (my gprs in active)
my e-mail address = (my e-mail)
outgoing mail server = smtp.blueyonder.co.uk
send message = during next conection
send copy to self = no
include signiture = no
username = (my username)
password = (my password)
incoming mail server = pop3.blueyonder.co.uk
mailbox type = pop3
security = off
apop secure login = off

Unless i have entered a mailbox setting in incorrectly i have a feeling its the access point, would i have to create a new one and if so would i need any special settings.. ie.. IP or IP gateways?

thanx for help 😮ops:

access point in use = o2 wap gprs (my gprs in active)

That is the problem, you need gprs internet connection, not wap.

OK I CHANGED IT TO GPRS, BUT I STILL GET AN ERROR MESSAGE WHEN CONNECTING TO MAIL BOX "ERROR, NETWORK CONNECTION ALREADY IN USE"

I NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN JUST GUIDE ME THROUGH IT, SOMEONE WHO MAYBE HAS BROADBAND E-MAIL SET UP, I JUST NEED A LIST OF THE MAILBOX SEETINGS AND ACCESS POINT SETTINGS

outgoing mail server = smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

...is unlikely to work if you are connecting through O2. You'll probably have to use O2s smtp server.

And, there's no need to shout. People are more likely to help you if you turn caps lock off.

Andy

Just because i had caps on doesnt mean i was shouting, anyway tried the thing you mentioned still no luck, im pretty sure i cant connect to a blueyonder broadband e-mail account, but i would like to be proved wrong. thanx again 😃

That error seems to suggest that you try to have two GPRS connections
at the same time, which wont work. :-? ???

And i dont understand what is so different in "broadband email" than in any
other email ??? tell me please 😃 ?

I'm inclinded to agree with Jyrik here. It sounds as though you've already got one GPRS connection active and are then trying to start another one up.

There is nothing stopping you using your broadband (or any other ISPs) email account on your phone. The only problem that I can think of, would be that if you leave your computer switched on all of the time, with your email client running it will grab the email from the server before you get chance to retrieve it with the phone.

To retrieve from your email account, use the POP3 server settings you have already got setup on your PC email client. To send email, you'll need to use the smtp server of the connection that you are using, it is very unlikely that the smtp server that you use in your pc email client will work.

Have a look at this thread:
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2732&highlight=%2Ao2%2A
where Zygote shows how to define an internet access point for O2. Might be worth comparing your settings.

Typing everything in capitals is conventionally known as shouting, and is generally frowned upon. 😊

Hope that some of this helps....

Andy

the difference is, broadband does not have a dial up number, so i would have to set it up another way that is the difference.
Hm... Never thought of that one
😃 Sanjay, you old devil.

I still dont get that, but no worries mate. :-?

as GPRS does not have a dialup number too, so whats the diff??

there is different settings for broadband e-mail, that it is why i created the post as i want to know what the settings are. 8)

I think you're confusing two issues. Email, and connections.

Email settings are the same, doesnt matter about how you connect. The only thing that will matter is the outgoing (smtp) server address, since this is likely to be connection specific because ISP on the whole dont run open relays, so you can only use their smtp servers if you have an IP address that falls into a range that they control.

Broadband is a term covering a variety of different connection methods. In the UK, it is likely to be either ADSL or Cable.

I have a number of different email accounts provided by different ISPs. I can use all of them from home (using my adsl broadband connection). My mums house, using her PC and a dial-up ISP. My 7650 using either GPRS, or dial-up. The only thing I have to worry about is if I want to send mail, I have to use the connection providers smtp server.

So, the point of this post is.... Once you've got your connection to the internet, be it an Internet GPRS (not wap) connection, or a dialup to *any* ISP, you will be able to retrieve your broadband email. If you want to send mail, you'll have to use the smtp server of the connection that you are using. If its gprs it's probably smtp.o2.co.uk if its another isp, its likely to be smtp.isp.co.uk (I think i've mentioned that before)

No, not at all. he will be able to send if he uses the smtp server provided by the connection he is using.

OK. I was just looking up my own Broadband settings suggested on the user guides ( i dont use this mail), and in fact, as Ephebe mentioned... it is so. Here's an excerpt from instructions

" Incoming Mail server: www.optusnet.com.au
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Leave as is. This should
use the mail server of the ISP that
you are using connecting to the
Internet
when you are not at
your OptusNet Cable connection.
No, not at all. he will be able to send if he uses the smtp server provided by the connection he is using.
Yeah.. i mean..not send from the same Mail service as the Broadband provider. Anyways..That one is sorted.

😃

thanx guys, i think that pretty much clears up my probs, thanx all for ya help!! got a new site for phones. http://mobilestylez.2u.co.uk 😃
