Imap Idle

Hi All

I am trying to use IMAP idle with my m600i (with the latest vodafone software). I have created my email account and selected IMAP and enabled IDLE.

I then click send and retrieve and it retrieves my email, and I get a little globe at the top of the screen indicating that it is connected to the net. If i then send another email to the address it instantly appears on the phone like it should.

However if i leave the phone for 10-15 minutes or so the globe dissappears and the emails no longer arrive.

From what I understand, the IMAP IDLE setting should raise a 'heartbeat' every 15 minutes or so to keep the connection alive, thus enabling the push email.

Has anyone successfully got IMAP IDLE to work with their m600i? Can anyone shed any light as to why the connection is dissappearing? I cant see an option anywhere to set the heartbeat interval.

Thanks
Kevin

ok, I have spoken to vodafone and sony about this.

Vodafone (who were very helpful, if a little clueless) didnt really know what the IMAP IDLE feature was all about and suggested that I use their push-email.

The problem is that the 3G/GPRS connection times-out after 5 minutes of inactivity. According to SE this is a Vodafone setting at the server end that cant be controlled.

So basically i need a way of either increasing the timeout setting at vodafone, or decreasing the amount of time between the keepalives. Unfortunately I can do neither of these, so I am screwed.

bloody brilliant.
