Hi all as the title says, im thinking of buying a Nokia N80 on which is on the Orange network. Now what I want to know is .....................is there anything I should look out for as regards the Orange pre-installed firmware...............Does orange restrict functions on this phone in any way?........Am I better off with a generic phone?..................can the orange phone be re programmed to generic mode if need be.......thanks in advance.

The Orange N80 is not crippled with the Orange HomeScreen like other Nokia handsets, e.g. N70 or 6680. If given the choice however, I'd still prefer a generic handset (I got my Orange N80 flashed with generic firmware, latest N80 f/w is V4.0623.0.42), I think Orange may have disabled over the air firmware updates (aka FOTA).
However, all of the above is pretty much of a moot point... Orange have discontinued the N80 on their network as it was too much hassle for them, there maybe a handfull of handsets lurking around in an Orange high street shop somewhere but I'm guessing they are pretty rare these days, your only option may well be to buy generic.
If you buy generic then you won't have access to Orange's Line 2 feature (two separate numbers on one SIM) if you subscribe to it.

Can the orange phone be reflashed to a generic phone, and why did orange discontinue them on their network? what were the hassels they had with it?
They had problems with bluetooth with the pre v4 firmware.
they can be reflashed to generic just like i've done with my UK orange N80.
i reflashed mine to generic about 30mins after the parcel van delivered it 😊
well Ive done it bought and N80 on orange and then re- flashed it to generic and the latest flash..job done thanks people for the help and advice.:icon14:
