Hi guys,
How many times do you write the word "so" in a text message? Well I like to use it a lot. So (see!) it's really getting annoying that I once spelled the word "Po" and now it is in my phone's memory bank and "So" is always second choice!
How do I get into the user dictionary to delete this?
You dont! Is like that.:frown:
Not true! You can reset your custom dictionary by deleting a file on your phone. See this thread for more info: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/46907/. The only caveat being that you'll lose all the other words that you added!
Except that on the N80 (or any S60 3rd Edition based device) the file isn't in the same place & accessible. So, the advise that works for older models doesn't apply any longer.
hmm, well i tried this...see if it works...you can change the sequencing of words. Let say when u type "7" & "6" you should get "so" instead you get "po" with an unerline[meaning predictive mode is active], during this time press the pencil key, you will get few options, go to predictive text->edit text and then enter "so" the squence get changed and next time you press "7" & "6" you will get "so" and not "po"...let me know if this helps!

Using one of the many free (trial) file explorers go to
C:/system/data/ ...
Down there you will find a file called: T9UDB0f.DAT
Delete that file and you will get a clean Dictionary again
That file will be created again when you add a new word...
And you may be can backup that file to the PC sending by BT with the file explorer then if you add a bad word you can get it back the backup of that file...

I've had Nokia phones for many years and I've got to say that's one of the most fabulously useful tips I've even seen. You are my hero! :icon14:
not a prob rob!....we r here to share our views and tips which will help the community....cheers!
Hello everybody. I see there are a few threads on this topic, but I am replying in this one becuase I think it is the most useful.
I have an N73, about a month old. My problem is when I type "you" with predictive text on, the result is "yot". Ridiculous, considering there is no English word I know of that even has that as the first three letters! I noticed that this from the beginning. If I press * then "you" comes up as the next option, but it is a bother to do that all the time.
I have tried your idea, vin_eme, but in my experience, this only edits the word for this time but does not save the edit. Same thing if with yot I press * enough times until I get to the spell option, write "you" and then save.
On another thread http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/54950/&highlight=predictive+text Cash says that there is a way of changing the order in which words appear in the predictive text > matches list, but he cannot remember it!
The most useful advice so far has come from DaveLFC above. I downloaded SExplorer, then went to C:/system/data/ ... but did not find a file called: T9UDB0f.DAT.
Now that I had the tool, I followed the advice of rcastberg http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/46907/ who wrote:
C:\system\Data\Predic
101F8615_F.dat
I checked this file and it def contains custom words.
I found this file, but could not check the contents. Am afraid of simply deleting it. Could not copy it first to my memory card, altho that seems to be possible, according to http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?i=127499&thread=417.
DaveLFC, please comment and further advise.
Thank you
I had the same problem with my N73 - "the" is being predicted as "uif"! It started doing it a week ago and I have tried several things (including the pencil suggestion on this thread) to fix it but nothing has worked so far. I dont want to delete the custom dictionary if I can help it as I have added many new words.
At the same time that "the" became "uif", "it" also became "iu". However, a few days later reverted back to "it". I don't know why?? I thought maybe because I used the * key to change it back to "it" many times, eventually it realised that was the primary combination of those keys. I tried the same thing with "the" but it hasn't helped.
This seems like a pretty major bug in the predictive text software, I mean words like "the" and "it" and "so" are very common and it is annoying as hell to have to manually change them back to what they should be.
i have an n80 and have had the same problem, whenever i put "ok", i would get "mk", i tried the pencil thing and that didnt work. i used y-browser and found the offending file, i copied it to my memory card using y-browser (just in case!!!) then deleted it from its original location, BINGO it now works a treat.

Welldone! What was the file? And how exactly did you find it? I have now downloaded y-browser. Thanks
