Hi guys,
Just got an m600i. Unbranded from ebay.
Like the device a lot, but won't use it everyday until it can wake me up in the morning!!!
If i set the alarm and power down the phone won't wake itself up to alarm. The alarm works ok if the device is switched on.
I'm wondering if maybe it's a fault fixed by a firmware upgrade or just i'm setting the alarm wrongly (can it be that complex even with UIQ3isms??)
Cheers
B
P.S. How do i find out my firmware version?
Hi
I don't think that you can turn your phone off if you want your alarm to work. A tip can be to put it in flight mode with your alarm on.
Note: I don't have the phone myself. Did just read about this porblem in another thread.
I'm surprised how often this is reported as a "bug" on the P990 and M600 - UIQ phones have been this way ever since the first P800 in 2002. I don't know if S60 phones are the same, but with all the UIQ devices the alarms are purely software driven within the UIQ/Symbian OS, and if the phone's switched off then UIQ isn't running, and neither do the alarms. It's no different to your PC in that respect - you may have alarms set in Outlook, but if your computer's switched off it won't turn itself on to remind you of them.
It may be an undesirable feature, but it's not a bug, and it's nothing new.
Today I found out:
The Nokia phones with Symbian OS Series 60 3rd edition will play the alarm even if the phone is switched off.
The Sony Ericsson Symbian OS UIQ 3.0 based devices will not. Unless the phone is switched off and attached to a charger. When charging the phone goes into some kind a charge mode with (apparently) the alarm server running.
So, if you want to be sure to wake up in the morning. Get a Nokia.
/s (as of today nervous owner of a M600i).
Or leave your phone on? Is that really so unthinkable? You can always put it into flight mode every night, to save battery and prevent any calls from waking you up.
I've been using UIQ phones for three years and it never once occurred to me that this was even an issue.
