problem with 2gb miniSD

18 replies · 6,712 views · Started 25 November 2006

i just purchased a 2gb mini SD from PQI
when recording video or taking pictures .. it appears to do it
but when i look in gallery there are no pictures or videos ?

I used the built in format option from tools->memory
what can i do to solve this problem ?

it appears to be formated as MS-DOS fat 16
and upon further inspection the folders inside video and pictures are NOT folders
and there are a bunch of **.dat files in the root

any clues ?
should i reformat the card as a different filesystem ?

Very, very odd. Try reformatting the card again and building its contents up bit by bit, one pic at a time. Are they corrupt from the very start? And have you tried restarting the N93?

Steve

i've tried re-formatting with both Mac and on the Phone

i take one picture and its not there in the gallery
also the images and videos folders are not true folders ( at least on the Mac they appear as files )

and there is a ###.dat file ( numbered )

i have tried 2 N93's and 2 PQI cards .. both the same problem so i assumed its PQI and Nokia

is this something the new firmware is likely to address ?

also i formated the 2gb and copied the contents of the 128mb to see if it just wasn't creating folders correctly and it failed also

So, should be the cards... Try the last firmware upgrade to the phone and see if that works, if not, are the cards.

NSU is for the phones listed. Where they are is not important. Maybe yours is not listed, but I think is a matter of time.

I have also issues with my 2g Kingson card. For some reason the n93 does not read all files I stored on it If I use the music player and gallery application.

Worse of all the music player does not update mp3 files added to the card anymore, I have to manually add new tracks in a play list.

they basically said you can't use none Nokia Branded miniSD cards
and using "aftermarket" miniSD cards could void your warranty

the N93 is listed but it doesn't do anything when i run NSU so i guess i'm upto date

None Nokia mem cards void your warranty? I'm using a 2gig Sandisk Ultra II and I'm pretty sure that's better than anything Nokia have produced. You sure they don't mean 'Nokia approved'?

here's what Nokia emailed me

[INDENT]Nokia is aware of developers that create products for aftermarket use with Nokia phones. Any use of such products is at the risk of the user, and not guaranteed by Nokia. Additionally, use of a third party product with a Nokia phone may cause the warranty to be voided on the phone, should it be found that the third party product caused damage or inoperability to the Nokia phone.

2 gb SanDisk worked perfect for me! Just reformatted the thing through the phone interface (FW v20). All the folders appear as they should while connected to my PC through PC Suite. It's not the Ultra II version, just the regular.
