Some users have experienced weird problems after the upgrade, but in almost all cases formatting the phone memory with *#7370# resolves the issues.
The other things to watch out for are to ensure you BACKUP or write down all your contacts, connections (GPRS, MMS, Internet, Email) etc. as the phone's internal memory is sometimes wiped clean during the FW upgrade process.
The safest way to upgrade at home is to use the Nokia Software Updater (NSU), however, depending on which network supplied your phone, NSU may inform you there are no updates available.
If NSU will not update your phone, your safest option then is to visit a Nokia Care Cenre (many large Carphone Warehouse Stores in UK are NCCs) and ask the trained engineer to upgrade to V4 firmware, free of charge under warranty.
There are other home-based options like Phonix and NSS but just keep in mind that if anything goes wrong you may brick the phone and invalidate your warranty at the same time. (You might get away with it if you tell your Network or the NCC engineer that your PC crashed during an NSU upgrade and don't admint to using Phoenix etc).
Apart from the above potential problems, I don't think there are any CONS at all. There's very little advantage in retaining the older V3 FW on the N80.
PROS: Bluetooth stability - 100% required if you want to use GPS Sat-Nav; Memory Handling improvements; FOTA (Firmware upgrades over GPRS/WiFi) is enabled.
Cheers,
Dez
IMHO if theres nothing pressing that makes you need to update to V4. then dont bother...
Having said that the NSS method is dead easy, BUT theres always a chance you could be the one that has a problem! :con?
.... although Dez says No CONS, Id be wary of this comment. 😉 I have some new issues with v4 mainly in the wifi and caller ID's.

Hi K,
Sorry you are experiencing problems with WiFi and Caller ID. Personally I have not experienced these problems, but perhaps forum users should be wary after all. Thanks for adding your experience!
2 major PROs of V4 FW are GPS Bluetooth Stability and FOTA FW updates (although FOTA is now largely irrelevant since Nokia NSU now supports N80).

2 things I would try...
1. Format the phone memory with *#7370#
2. Go into manage connections in PC Suite and try to re-detect the phone.
If you don't have any problems with v3 then you may want to consider not upgrading, especially if you are using the NSS & NSU method.
However if you do want to upgrade to v4 then two other benefits are changes to the font and the ability of the "WEB" app to store usernames and passwords. I also now have the "#" button working as the silent/general profile switch once again.
The only main con I really have is that whenever I lose signal I get a "SIM card registration failed" error message - never had that before. Not noticed any WiFi problems since upgrading vis NSS and NSU.
yeah, I really upgraded in anticipation of my TT6 Xmas present from the missis 😉 plus the fact that Im into all this early adoption crap 😉
But as they often say, if it aint broke........
