What's the reason behind this?
Anyone?

I guess because nobody really listens to AM radio anymore .. just FM

And because the radio receiver is an FM-only receiver chip.

Anyway, I think there are are still a few AM stations (at least in the USA; don't know about other parts of the world, except that not many - or any? - in Northern Europe).

There are many features that they have left out of this phone, they toyed with the idea of a reel of string to attach to a tin so that you could have conversations over short distances. They also thought a pencil glued to the case would make an excellent emergency writing device. I guess along with an AM radio they just couldn't fit it all in.

Maybe more important then AM radio is FM RDS Radio... Why not yet on Nokia phones:con?

I did see preliminary designs for a small portable kettle that would attach to the phone so you can make yourself a cuppa, but the engineers and designers thought that would drain the battery too quickly 😉

The original N80 prototype had Monster Truck wheels, was covered in fur and wailed like a banshee.

They canned that idea as they thought it was silly.
