firmware update causing problems

5 replies · 2,944 views · Started 26 November 2006

hi i just bought my n80 a few days ago, and i downloaded the firmware updater from nokia and ran the program.

my phone is unbranded i.e. no orange vodafone etc.

now when i ran the update it got till 70% then said the phone was disconnected and did not proceed

so i unplugged the phone and the phones working fine, and i keyed in *#0000# and it says it has the latest firmware. but now when i plug it in to my computer through the usb cable pc suite doesnt recognise it.

i tried reinstalling the firmware again and i ran into the same problem at around 70%.

as i type now im downloading all 70mb through the updater program to try to reinstall the firmware a 3rd time.

any assistance would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Did you leave it updating for long enough? It will disconnect and reconnect a number of times and may seem to be doing nothing, you just have to leave it alone.

You have to leave the phone alone for quite a good long time, as was mentioned in previous post you may think that the update has stalled because of dissconection and nothing seems to be happening, I almost disconnected my phone because nothing seemed to be happeningm but decided to leave it. went out shopping for 30 mins and when I came back it had finished the update and all was fine.

If you phone id dead now then I am afraid its probably a trip back to the shop you bought it from, dont mention anything about updating, just say it doesnt work anymore and you would like a replacement please..

thx yeah im going to send it back in.

the thing is the updating program on the computer said that the update had failed and gave me the two option buttons to try again or cancel.

is that what happened to you as well? or did it just seem dead with the update progress bar staying at one place for a long time?

The screen on the phone went blank as if the phone was switched ofm and it dissconnected and then recconectedm and the progress bar seemed to be stuck for a long timem thats when I decided to go out for 30 mins and leave it to see what happens.

You may have got the fail because it didnt update correctly in the first place...
