Just thought you guys may be interested, Tivi has released updates applications for its VOIP software for the N80 and your PC, its possible to make a video call from your N80 over wifi now,
Call quality for me is great, and video quality is ok, but I put that down to the sh*t camera on the N80
Truephone are not at presant looking at a soft truphone for the PC which to be quite honest makes it pretty useless to me because many of the people I call dont have a phone capable of free voip via wifi and will use their PC instead to make and recieve free calls.
Goto www.tivi.com for both downloads for PC and N80
To test set up 2 accounts, use one account for your N80 and the other account for your PC and call yourself...dont forget to open the ports on your firewall...
Let me know how you get on, I think it works a treat..I can even call my parent in France from Lithuania and have a reasonable conversation with them and they are only on dial-up.
I installed this app but when it came to accounts and stuff I couldnt be bothered, did u pay for anything and also how do u set the thing up? CHeers

well you just register your username and password and this logs you onto the TIVI system...then just install on your phone and configure with your username, and you dont install on your computer..just put the app in a seperate folder and run from there, again configure with your username and password
its simple
Ok ive done that, i didnt but a tivi number in but i guess i wont need one if im not calling landlines etc. SO howdo i go about making a call to another tivi user's phone or u said about calling a computer?
Cheers
well you just type in the username of the person you want to call...for example when I call my parents in france I type my dads name and press the send key, he signed up with his own name, as I did, so when he calls me he just types my name...
He has Tivi on his computer, he only has dial up because broadband isn't in his area yet and it works ok..
if you set up a second account and use this on your computer, you can call that account to test Tivi.
and you dont need a Tivi number for tivi-tivi calls....I think that Tivi will be introducing more international numbers in the future also...I need a French number and also a UK number...but will have to wait for these, but most of my friends and collegues already have Tivi now so its not that important
yeah i tried tivi when it first came out but it kept crashing, the new version is much better. -video is a nice touch!
there are a few things stoping me paying for the service to phone landlines tho:
1) i allready have a paid for sip account
2) you have to pay with "HanzaNet or by bank/wire transfer"
3) its all in lats and i cant be bothered converting it to pounds, -pounds or euros listed on the site would make it more friendly.
truphone looks to integrate with the phone better (and they give you £5 credit at start up and free calls to the end of the year), but flashing to n80ie is getting very tempting!

I agree with some of what you say...The Tivi site needs to grow up a little and be more "internationally friendly"
FYI 1 lat is equiv to 1 give or take a little.
I just have an issue with Truphone that they dont have a client, and are not looking at a client for the PC which I think is quite a bad move...
I read that its possible to call other sip clients from truphone, but to call from another sip client to truphone cant be done because truphone wont allow this.
The last thing I want is to have 3 or 4 different VOIP clients running on my phone just to make free calls.
its in lats?? Cool... thats my fav currency... reminds me of a weekend but thats another thread...
Id use this if it didnt involve registering for you more accounts.. and needing other to be on the same network..

I hear what you say about the weekend 😊..I live in Lithuania and my whole life is one eastern european weekend ...I guess you know what I mean 😉....
done some more playing with tivi. it seams to lack loadspeaker! (not very good when using videophone mode!) and i cant see how to change the default (appaling) ringtone. Ive crashed it a few times but i can live with that given what it is doing is very complex and noone else does it yet. setting up port forwarding seamed to reduce the lag.
TiVo although it works is a bit messy, when i open then close the slider, the lock message gets frozen on the screen, no loudspeaker like a previous post mentioned, looks a tad basic to me.
Is this a SIP client or some proprietary system (like Skype) and is it only for use with TiVi's network?
yes TiVi uses SIP, but its locked to TiVis (overpriced and questionable payment system) network.
Does the job for me at the moment untill I get Gizmo..I decided not to go the Truphone route as they dont have a PC app, and they dont allow other sip voip networks to call in (I have been told but somebody may correct me on that)..
truphone works for n80 RIGHT NOW!. you just need the internet edition, so flash to N80i and you can use truphone, ive used it, works great ;]
