I know its wishful thinking but I wonder if any of the major publishers will start producing a Symbian magazine?
I quite fancy a 'Symbian Format' or 'Symbian Pro'. Highstreet magazines would also raise public awareness of the OS and it associated hardware. With several new devices just around the corner I'm sure something will be produced but when?
Also I wonder what the situation is like in outside of the UK?. Are there any Symbian magazines anywhere? Are there likely to be?
That would be great, but most 7650 users would see the magazine and say "Symbian? What's Symbian?"
Unlike Microsoft who plaster their name all over anything and everything, you'd be hard pressed to find any mention of Symbian on a Symbian driven device.
I guess for the next year we won`t see a Symbian Printed Magazine.
This is due to financial Issues, even with big names advertising there.(I bet M$ will not ad. there 😉 )
But it is a great ideea, and I want to say that this will be possible to do in in electronic format. 4 A4/Letter pages / month will be enough. Even more if we will add AAS Reviews in there 😉 .
So, why not start-it?
Who wants to join this project e-mail me at [email protected].
Let`s do it.
What the "Dynamic Duo" is thinking? 😉 😉 😉 -Who remebres it? 😉 😉 😉
The thing is with an electronic e-magasine is you lose nearly all the advantages of being a print magasine and yet still cant compete with websites.
I'm afraid you'll have to stick to this poor attemtp at a website 😉
We'll be launching a newsletter shortly though. If people are interested in helping out please contact me 😊
I only know of a Benelux Symbian magazine from the Benelux community Symbian.info 😊
I'm in two minds about whether 7650 users know they are using Symbian. If they did not how did they end up here? The 7650 is the only series 60 device at the moment so knowing what it runs is not so important. However when the new series 60 devices (3650, N-Gage and hopefully many more) devices come in next year then they will probably need to know as it will tell them what software is compatable with their devices.
I also would expect software developed for one user Symbian user interface to (normally) be converted to the rest i.e. Series 60 to Series 80 and UIQ plus any other variation that come along. This should not be too great a task. So a Symbaian magazine might be more appropriate than say, a Series 60 one.
I'm also not sure about advertising revenue. There have been plenty of magazines that have been produced with little advertising revenue. The current Linux magazines have relatively little for example. I dont think this is such a problem for Symbian as it supported by most of the big name mobile phone manufacturors and quite a few software developers who I'm sure would be prepared to pay to advertise their wares.
I appreciate the idea of an online magazine. This was attempted in the early days of Symbian devices (I can't remember what it was called?) but unfortunately fell by the wayside some time ago. As Rafe said, I think it was partly to do with the fact that sites such as this alerady provide the information albeit in a different format, but mainly its not the same as a printed magazine.
