Big SMS problem

I am about to lose my mind, I bought this n73 and I like the phone. But there is something that makes me go crazy. Before I had a Nokia 6230i and when I used to write messages with special characters like ğşı I had the possibility to use 160 characters in ONE messages. With the Nokia n73 when I use one of these special characters, just by typing one of them, it reduces the 160 characters just like that to 60 (up to max 70), so it reduces it with 100 characters in once. I think this is not logical and it HAS to be a mistake in the software! I called Nokia en they said its normal, it took them 10 minutes to research, that cost me 5 euro for that answer (50 cent per minute), and thats what they call a professional helpdesk?

So what can i do else? I thought about contacting Symbian about this cause I dont agree at all that this is normal. But I couldnt find a email address of a phone number. Maybe some one else has a solution to this problem ore the contact information I need? Thanks in advance.

Its a firmware issue. Try NSU tool, and see if there is a new FW for your phone.

thnx for you reply but it's not an firmware issue cause this 'problem' is their since nokia 6600, and i already have the latest firmware.

just a phonenumber ore an email is enough

Symbian wouldn't be able to help. It's Nokia's implementation of the OS that is potentially causing you a problem. It's like trying to get help from Microsoft because Photoshop doesn't work.

But if you want, you can get info on Symbian from their homepage...

Huh? why do i think thats not true? Cause is it not true that symbian made the OS software, and nokia only uses it, so symbian is the developer of the software and here with responsible for mistakes?

I think the comparison you made doesnt match. Its more like when i buy a computer from the store with windows on it, and when windows has an error in the software, its not logical to go back to the store who sold me the computer but to microsoft who made the software.

and in this case symbian is the make of s60 OS software for nokia. i bought the phone from nokia but be hounest they can't edit the software since they didnt develop it.

i found a email on symbian for developers, i mailed them but i get no response... arghhh maybe i should mail nokia, so they can send it on to the person who does know something about it.. 😊

Think what you like, my friend, but that comparison is pretty much how it is. If you are having problems with Adobe Photoshop or Lotus Notes, you go to Adobe or Lotus. If you went to Microsoft, they would just tell you the same. Symbian provide the "Operating System", that is, the platform that Nokia use to develop software for their mobile phones. Symbian OS features on other makes of phones too, not just Nokia, and they all differ in many ways. Much like my Windows installation is wildly different from yours or anyone else's, so is Nokia's implementation of the Symbian OS for their devices.

Your problem centres around an issue with a Nokia application running on a Symbian platform, therefore Nokia are the ones to contact. Symbian do not provide support for the devices that run it's OS.

Persevere with Nokia. They are the right people to be contacting regarding your issue.

Good luck.

ahh but i didnt know nokia edited the OS from symbian i thought they just place them om the phone as they come from symbian. ok but then you are right indeed. thanks for the information

im goin to mail/contact nokia
i let it know what i get as response.

Nokia develop S60 which uses Symbian OS. It is S60 that contains all the programs and features we use on the phone.

Nokia is the way to go. Hope you get some response soon. 😊

Oef i mailed 2 service points in the netherlands but they dont react. I can not find the email of nokia its self. Do you know which mail adres i can use the best? I live in the netherlands. I think the best adres i could mail to is of the developers but how can i find that?
