Accessory Question

I'm about to give my wife an N80 for the holidays, and I was going to couple it with an iPod Shuffle ($79 for 1GB), but I realized I'd rather spend the money for the Shuffle on a 2GB mini SD ($70 approx) card for the N80 instead, and have her use it for her music. I need advice on current or previous N80 owners who are/were using the phone as a music player.

1) What would be a good pair of ear phones for the N80? I'm looking for something small, preferably under $75. I will consider a wireless/bluetooth option if it does not go over $125 and the sound is not crap.

2) How secure is the connection of the earphone to the base of the N80? Does it detach easily?

3) Is there any 2.5mm cable out available for the phone? My car has an AUX in, and I basically use a male-male 2.5mm jack from the iPod to the car AUX. I would like this optional cable, if it existed, in times when she uses my car.

4) How is the sound of the phone's music player, provided the songs are about 192kbps bit rate.

Thank you very much for any assistance/advice you can provide.

Make sure you get earbud phones, the ones with rubber that fit inside the ear (sometimes called noise cancelling earphones), Sony do some very good ones, thats what I use

with the earphones its a pretty good connection, just makes sure there is no dirt or dust in the connections, but with the usb connector that seems not so good

The N80 comes with a 2.5mm accessory so that you can plug third party earphones into it, and you can use it with your car as you explained above

I find the sound very good, unless you are an audiophile and want perfection then I think you will be more than happy with it, and of course the benefit is you dont need to carry 2 devices, you can also load full films onto the N80, after compression they are abour 250 - 300 megs

Also note that you are able to use the phone in offline mode on some airlines, easyjet for one actually say its safe to use the phone in offline mode when they go through the safety procedure on board.

Hope that helps.

its 3.5mm, but thats standard (the same as th ipod etc), if it is actually 2.5mm on your car you can either get a 2.5-3.5 lead or a 3.5-3.5 lead with a 3.5 to 2.5 adaptor if you cant find the first (but as i say its the same as the ipod)

If ur after a good headset nokia are releasing the HS-69, do a google search for it as it isnt on nokias site yet, its a nice headset with an in-line remote that has a LCD display, altho if u do want to use this headset u will have to flash the n80 to the n80IE coz only the internet edition supports the new HS-69, another option is the AD-41, its got an in-line remote and also has a 3.5 mm socket so u can use ur own gud quality headphones. As for music quality id use WMA, it sounds better than MP3, a 64kbps WMA file sounds as gud as a 128kbps MP3, so if u use a 128kbps WMA file it will sound great, i use WMA at 64kbps and they sound fine with my n80 conected to my sony STR-DB790 6 CHAN DTS amp, my advice is sample sum WMA files encoded at dif bit rates!

Sorry dude .. misread that .. haha I had just woke up and didnt have my morning cup of tea...always a bad thing to ty do any work without first drinking a cuppa 😊

The best quality I've found for the N80 actually came from using OGG formatted files. The only downside there is that OGGPlay is still in beta at the moment, however I've been using it for a couple of months now and I've only noticed one very small bug.

Thanks for all the replies. I also would like to apologize about the 2.5mm thing, because I thought that was the standard size. My car uses the same size as the iPod's, so it should be the standard 3.5mm.

Good to know that the N80 actually comes with an audio jack adapter. That certainly made my decision easier because I thought all the extra accessories will add up costing more than a Nano!

Another follow-up question.... if you're using a third party stereo headset, how do you guys answer the phone? I'm sure you'll know while listening to music that the phone will ring and stuff, so my question is aimed more at how you would actually talk to the other party, considering your headset does not have a mic like those Nokia branded ones.

Thanks to all the music type/bitrate advice as well. I'll ready the files for testing before the phone gets here tomorrow.
