NSU says I've got the latest firmware

I think I've done a cock-up...

My phone had an O2 product code. A few days ago, before I found this website I updated my firmware on the Nokia site to the latest version. Then I found this forum and have now changed to a generic product code using gsm magic and NSS. Now when I try to re-run NSU to get it to install the generic firmware it won't let me, because it sees that the number of my firmware matches that of the generic firmware. Is there a way around this, or is it the case that NSS perhaps failed to change my product code correctly?

thanks

if it says you already have the lastest version, it should give u the option to reinstall, do that, but this time it will install the firmware to which code u entered in nss.

well this statement is not valid if u have v4.xxx.42

Yeah it doesn't give me the option to reinstall the firmware.

Can this be worked around, or will I have to wait until a new firmware is released? Should I just get it over and done with and convert to IE? Can this be done from an O2 firmware or does it have to generic when converting?

P.S. I hear a lot about FOTA - what is this an abbreviation of?

Firmware Over The Air

Best done by WLAN unless you want to pay your provider some enormous data charge for the firmware download.

Does anyone have answers for my other questions above?

well you have the latest firmware ... so you cant update .. and sometimes you dont get the option to re-install the firmware ....I didnt

What about upgrading to IE ? I was thinking of doing it anyway. Is it possible to upgrade from an O2 firmware to an IE one? Or would it have to be done from a generic firmware to IE firmware?

Yes, it's very possible but not by using NSU. You have to use the Pheonix service software. There are guides available elsewhere on the forum.

thanks - I'll give this a go.

a couple of extra questions:

1. Will I still be able to use Nokia PC Suite with my N80ie phone, for backing up, installing apps, etc?

2. Where do I get hold of future updates to the N80ie firmware.

thanks

1. - yes u should still be able to use pc suite as normal

2. - when updates are released, u should be able to update, via nsu or fota

How does one use Firmware Over The Air?

I have looked on the Nokia website Software Update page, where there's an option for "via PC" or FOTA, but the option for FOTA disappears when I select the N80 from the list of phones.

cheers

FOTA is done on the phone. You can find it in the Device Manager program once your N80 is running v4 firmware or above.

it might not be enabled on your phone, on my orange n80 it was disabled untill i upgraded it to a generic version.

check by going to menu -> connect -> device manager -> options -> check for updates.
