Dear all
I have a N80 on orange pyg
I have some reservations in upgrading to N80ie. I have some questions for those that have.
- GIZMO VOIP is now downloadable for N80? :con?
https://gizmovoip.com/learn/using_gizmo_voip/download.php
so whats the fuss about having ie firmware installed for voip?
However, if I decide to flash(!), do i need to be on a contract with orange, or to have my phone unblocked by them before i attempt the upgrade?
Lastly if i follow the instructions on the upgrade to v4 n80ie firmware elsewhere on this forum very closely, what are the chances of screwing up my phone?
Cheers in advance people

Its actually not available for the N80, the Gizmo website is wrong, unless its been released in the last few minutes, just download and try install on your phone. If it wont install then its still not available and will only install on the N801e
If it does install then you are sorted 😊..
Chances of screwing up your phone vary depending on your experience, how good connection your usb cable has with your phone, and your computers stability.
If all of the above are not good, then chances are high ...
But remember at the moment the only way to get true sip voip is upgrading your N80 to N80ie
As Cash says, screwing up your phone depends on:
Does your computer ever crash? If no, or very rarely, you'll be fine.
Are your USB ports loose in anyway? If no, you'll be fine.
Is the cable loose in your phone? If no, you'll be fine, but bare in mind there is a rumour that there have been dodgy cables, so once connected just dont move the phone/cable.
Can you follow instructions well? If yes, you'll be fine.
Do you have all the needed software? If yes, you'll be fine.
Just before you press the button to begin flashing, check you have done everything needed.

Good advice keydog, I think the best advice that you have given though is not to move the phone at all untill the flashing process is finished, and keep the phone somewhere where it wont get knocked accidently
I am convinced that this is the major couse of failed flashing ..

And turn off your antivirus/firewall while flashing as occasionally an alert may come up that can halt the flashing process.

It's worth pointing out that even if you are experienced at flashing Nokia's with Phoenix, carelessness can brick your phone. I nearly bricked mine last week and I flashed around 5 times previously without any problems.
Take Cash's advice and read the instructions, fully charge the phone and never moved the phone or cable during flashing.
One additional recommendation is to use a Laptop if you have one. That way if there is a mains power failure, your Laptop Battery will finish the flash process.
My personal preference for running Phoenix is by building it on top of a Virtual Machine platform such as VMWare Server (it's free)... this way you have a clean install of Windows with nothing else going on and you don't have to worry about formatting your main computer. It worked a treat for me.
Though the advice about not moving your USB cable is very sound also... they're only held in by those two weedy little metal prongs. The more I think about Nokia moving to a standard MiniUSB the happier I am about it 😊

Nokia going to a standard system !!!!! can it be true ..I hope so but will probably be a cold day in hell when that happens 😊..
Seriously ... do you know what the connector is on the N95 .. I am tempted to get this ....dont know why ...but I am still not fed up with my N80 yet ..but I think the N95 will have alot more goodies to play with ... especially cant wait to play with the inbuilt gps 😊
Will have to switch the the N95 board then and leave you guys .....

MiniUSB on the N95

Just a shame the screen res is lower than the N80 😞
I didn't know the N95 was up for sale yet. I thought it was supposed to come out early 2007... How much can you get it for? And also i think it is maybe worth waiting a little while to find out if there are any bugs with it. Is the battery on the N95 the same as on N80? Cause they seem to be almost the same in size.

just one more thing - do i need to unblock my phone prior to 80ie flashing?

Hi S,
No, you don't need an unlocked phone to upgrade FW - but don't expect it to be unlocked afterwards either, it will still retain the original network locking.
