Nokia 9500 hinge problem

Can anyone tell me where I can buy a new casing for the 9500 in the UK? My hinge has broken, and I don't want to pay almost 100 for an official service centre to repair it.

Taking the 9500 apart in a way so that it can be put together again and be fully functional is a very difficult operation, and if you do not have access to the tech manual or is experienced with the construction of devices like this, you risk getting an unsatifactory result.

Thus I would recommend that you search out a Nokia service center in your vicinity and ask for an estimate for getting the repair done professionally. They can probably sell you the spare parts too, if you still prefer to do it yourself

There is a way of repairing it without taking the phone apart, if all the pieces of the broken hinge is still in place inside the joint. Mix some epoxy glue and use a needle or a tooth pick to apply the glue very carefully to all the cracks. After doing this you need to fixate the phone for at least an hour in the position that presses the the pieces of the hinge together best. Use tape and little pieces of paper as helpers.

If you are lucky, the hinge will be fully functional after 24 hours and as strong as new. There is no danger of gluing the hinge stiff (provided that you are carefull of course) since the axle is made out of smooth metal that the glue doesnt stick to well. The trick is to use the glue sparringly - in this case "more" is definitely not "better".

I should mention that I have seen this work with success.

Hi Happyuser,

I'm not sure if you this can help but if you happen to visit Manila, you can have all of the external components (except the keypads) replaced for around PHP 3,000 - PHP 4,500 which is around USD 60 - USD 90. A complete set of replacement will go around PHP 6,500 - PHP 8,000. The prices here are dependent on the location and your bargaining skills

I'll be happy to assist you if you are in town, just PM me :call2:
