Does anybody else have problems with truphone,
I can only get it to connect about 20% of the time, tonight I just managed to get it to connect once out of about 30 attempts,
I even resorted to hard resetting my phone and anly installing truphone on the phone and it still wouldnt connect.
Went to my friends to try on his network and still the same problem.
Its driving me mad....what is supposed to be a good cool product is not for me....
I also noticed that if it isnt connecting the wireless sign is still on and I cant get this off withough turning the phone off, I changed the settings in the connection settings to "when needed" and there is nothing else running that would cause this to happen and not turn off.
Its not as seamlessly integrated into the phone as I would like or it should be....it still needs quite alot of work imho to be a reliable application for me to feel confident using.
On the other hand I have absolutely no problem with Tivi connecting, I know this uses its own client, but at least it works everytime.
Are you sure it is not something to do with your network/router.
My Truphone works and connects first time everytime and I have had in connected for over 14 hours today with no problems.
And that it is all through a US Robotics Max G router with NAT Firewall switched on and in stealth mode, I haven't even opened a port specifically for it.
I do I admit have a very fast cable connection which may help.
Only thing that may be different is that I removed the Truphone Wizard and use a manual setup as discussed in the other thread.
I also connect to Gizmo and Sipgate with no problems.

well it also doesnt connect in other wifi zones and hotspot zones, I also tried your method a few times....
Initially I thought it was my router, I relashed with updated firmware and reset and it worked, but I am now thinking this was just coincedence as sometimes I can go a day with it working, and then sometimes it doesnt work at all 😞(
Cash,
one thing i have noticed it that if you use your tru phone wizzard everytime it connects and connects very fast....mine works that way...but after that it stays online for a long time till you disconnect...
Mine worked since i installed it. Then one day i uninstalled it and installed it again, and again no problems, it connects first time everytime. Quality of calls is very good. But i still haven't got it to connect via Packet Data connection. I'm not even sure it is possible, I'm curious if anyone managed to do it, as i'm on the x-series silver from three and i would like to use Truphone with it.

I have flashed again with a different variant firmware to see if this makes any difference, but it doesnt ..I cant figure it.....Gizmo works fine and so does Tivi, I also tried re-downloading truphone and re-installing but it still has difficulty in connecting...
On the plus side when it does connect it is very good ...it was connected all day yesterday and I used it alot to call France and the UK...but when I woke this morning its not connected and I cant get it to connect again ...
Cash, do you keep your phone on a charger all day? Cause otherwise you'd run out of juice in a few hours by using Wireless.

When I am at home or working then yes my phone is constantly connected to a charger because I am always in earshot of it.....
I have to say that I had it running for about 6 or 7 hours yesterday with wifi and BT on and also playing a few hours of music and still had a little juice still in the battery , which I was quite pleasantly surprised about .. I though I would get maybe 3 - 4 hours

I find Truphone very stable provided you don't change the connection settings.
For example if I have Truphone set to automatically connect to my home WiFi router, I can go out to work in the morning and the WiFi disconnects when I am out of range. Then, at the end of the day, it automatically reconnects OK when I get home and i can send or receive calls.
Unfortunately, if I want to disable Truphone to save battery power, or if I want to use a different connection - e.g. Office, friend's WiFi, hotspot, etc. then changing the connection makes Truvoice (and the whole N80) unstable - either in slow-down of menu's or in an unexpected reboot of the phone.
I find TruWiz simply doesn't work well for changing the connection, so I have worked out the following method to connect/disconnect using the N80's built-in Internet Telephone applet.
Disconnecting
Change the TrueVOIP settings Login Type = Manual to disconnect/disable Truphone. Within 60 seconds the WiFi connection is automatically closed. Occasionally my phone will reboot itself within 5 minutes of disconnecting.
Connecting
Change the TrueVOIP settings Login Type = Automatic and select the new WiFi router (if you are not at home) to enable TruPhone again. Within 60 seconds I can make and receive Internet calls.
This seems to work reliably for me, but perhaps users with different routers may get different results. I am using a NetGear DG834G, with Visible SSID, WPA/PSK encryption and pre-approved MAC-address access control.
Sometimes my battery lasts for two days, sometimes even less than a day. I had it charging last night and now i'm on two bars, and only used bluetooth for about half an hour and played a cards game on the tube for about 10 min, and talked for about an hour in total. But i always have my backup battery with me, just in case. I wouldn't change the phone for a different one though, maybe when the N95 is out and if it is indeed way superior to the N80. But I don't think the battery will be much better, as it has roughly the same size as the N80.

I will give this a go Dez, but first I need to get the damn thing to connect ...I just reflashed so reinstalling everything from fresh (not by backup)...
What other settings do you have for truphone that you think I might need to change..

I think then n95 is planned to ship with an 1100mAh battery whereas the N80 has an 860mAh one. Roughly 25-33% more capacity.
However, the N95 power consumption may not be compariblw with the N80, so N95 battery life could be (a) the same or (b) significantly better than N80.
We will have to wait and see... and according to The Register the USA launch of N95 has now slipped to Q2 2007....

Hi Cash,
TruWiz created a number of WLAN access points for me but I deleted them.
I manually created 2 WLAN access points, HOME and HOTSPOT
You associate the HOME access point with the Truphone-home SIP profile
You associate the HOTSPOT access point with the Truphone-travel profile
(you do this in Menu -> Tools -> Connection -> SIP Profiles -> TrueVOIP
I disable (un-ticked) the Truphone-office SIP profile as theres' no WiFi where I work.
The HOME access-point is always set to connect to my home router.
The HOTSPOT access point needs changed to the local router/hotspot whenever you want to use a friend's router etc, but that's easy using the Search for Network function (within connection settings) to scan for available networks.
Then all you need to do is go into Internet Telephone applet and set the relevant SIP profile (within TrueVOIP) to Automatic and wait 60 seconds.
Hope the above is not too confusing, it's not as difficult as it appears after a few goes. Personally I think the next release of TruPhone or the next FW upgrade will simplify matters greatly. Fingers crossed.
Last week, while out and about in Hampstead, i checked to see if i had any wireless networks in range, and i found a couple that had no key protection. My phone automatically created the access point and i could connect my voip applications immediately to that access point. So far i found it very easy to use the Voip on the N80. After setting up Lowratevoip, i could not connect to it, but a phone restart sorted the problem.
Dez,
I set the settings up the way you suggested and I still cant get this Damn thing to work.
It finds my wifi access point, but will not connect and register .., also wont connect to the free one in the irish pub or in the pizza place restaurant either ....

i had the same problems, but found a quick way to connect/disconnet
set the "internet telephone" as active stand by application so you have the icon on the screen and then just use that. on click it does connect straight away and actually ask if i want to connect to other services as well, like gizmo.
after the phone call i just click again on the active icon and the screen shows "already connected to truphone" and then.. "disconnect from truphone?" at which you go yes and .. that's it!!!
Same thing, it works with my phone and my router netgear wg834gt or something like that, i would be curios to see if anybody else can manage that or we are just doing hard beta testing for those guys, well even if ti was works for me and i've never been on the phone with my friends oversea so much as in the las 2 weeks!!!
LONG LIFE TO VOIP!
Dez
What product code do you have in your phone ...maybe if I try with the same code as you this may give me a different result ..

0535762 - UK CV IE PB
I think this is only available in the 90034285_RM-92_IE_EMEA_PR_dp_v15.01_SW4.0632.0.38 Firmware, not the V15.00
I flashed mind as the same product code as dez & truphone works great. I find it works best if i connect via the wizard though as it wont always connect successfully with the internet phone option, where as gizmo does.
