Hi there,
Since last week my N80 is capable doing voip (flashed it), I am trying to find the best voip provider in respect to quality price conditions for use in the Netherlands.
I installed and used Truphone and Gizmo, but for me as a non-UK user I still have to pay for calling to all landlines except the States/Canada/Hawai.
If you look at the Betamax products (voipcheap, voipbuster, etc), they are offering some nice deals with their "free" calls policy (300 minutes / 7 days) for calling a lot of europe countries.
Where is the BUT ? ...
Are any of you familiar using these services ? What are the do's and dont's ?. What about quality and availability ? Is it working with the N80ie?
Thanks,
i have a vopcheap account, i got it mainly to try out voip / sip etc, basically the companies are cheap and chearfull, they are known for havng no customer support (but Ive not needed to contact them). unfortunately i havent upgraded to IE yet so havnt tried it, but i have used their settings on an indipendant sip softphone no problems. call quality was fine but the user would usually hear an echco (but ive not tried it in some time now).
Has anybody tried setting up one of Finarea's voip services on your N80? I tried Lowratevoip, but i can't seem to get it to connect.

I have two issues when using VoipBuster from my N80ie:
1) DTMF doesn't work - do they have a problem with out-of-band DTMF dialling?
2) The called party can't hear what I say for the first few seconds of the call - I wonder if it's VoipBuster's servers working out what codec the phone is using and adjusting accordingly? The phone (and VoipBuster) support a number of codecs, but the preferred codec can't be selected from the UI, only from a settings file like Truphone use.

Hi,
I have over half a year experience with Internetcalls from Betamax in Poland. No problems when calling from PC, clear voice, no echoing. Since firmware flashed on my E60 - also very good connections via wi-fi. Standard settings:
- IETF,
- UDP,
- port 5060.
Other SIP parameters described on their web page http://www.internetcalls.com.
I have also managed to connect Lowratevoip on my N80, despite innitial problems. Made calls with them and you cannot notice any difference from a normal phone call made using the Gsm network. I cannot connect using my Packet Data connection, it only seems to work with WLan. Maybe i'm trying something impossible, but somebody on this forum mentioned he got Truphone working using the Packet Data connection. Could anybody help with this?
Besides gizmo project, truphone and tivi can't get any other voip provider working on my N80i.
Tried the Betamax clones from voipbuster through lowratevoip.com. Also tried voiptalk.org which also gives the same error, registration failed.
Seems that gizmo and truphone are 1 step ahead in delivering more error proof service. Still wondering if it has something to do with my cheap sitecom wl-114 router.
any ideas?
I had Lowratevoip working fine on my N80. Call quality excellent, connecting first time every time. Unfortunately i had to perform a hard reset of my phone due to installing some crappy software that made my phone unstable. After reinstalling, i can't seem to get the settings right again. I had to fiddle with it the first time as well in order to get it working, but i can't remember what i did. I have to keep trying. It's all in the settings, if you get them right, it works, if not, it doesn't. I'll let you know when i crack it.

mine is working now, i changed sip.voipbuster.com into sip1.voipbuster.com in sip proxy/regirstrar setting. Now still have to test it but no calls in mind, tomorrow i will try 😉
After a lot of fiddle i managed to get it working again, you have to use UDP, and to give it a restart after setting up, otherwise it won't work. I have Truphone working with my 3G connection using TCP, but Lowratevoip will not connect but only with Wireless Lan, i don't know why.
