Hi,
If needed can you simply flash the N80 firmware back onto the phone once it has been loaded with the N80i.
I'm guessing this can be done, has anyone tried?

I don't see any reason why not, but i don't see any reason why anyone would want to do it either ....
Mine is going on Ebay as I have just upgraded to another device - and the N80i firmware is slower to respond than the original firmware - would be nice to offer the prospective buyer the choice of revision.
Yes, seems like a perfectly good reason to do that, although after updating mine, i think it's even faster than it used to be.

Sorry but you cant downgrade the firmware .. you are stuck with the latest you have on the phone ..

NO! 😮
All Nokia BB5 phones (including all N-Series) will be bricked by downgrading firmware. In fact, Phoenix will refuse to downgrade firmware.
However, I would not be surprised if NSU tries to downgrade FW when the product code is changed, by allowing you to Re-Install the latest firmware for the selected product code.
However, if you want to prove myself and Cash wrong, and can risk bricking your handset, then please let us know how you get on.
Sorry if any of the above sounds harsh, I simply want to make you aware of the danger of what you are wanting to try. 😉

I agree: as to me IE is faster than original firmware :icon14:
I'm 100% that you can't downgrade. No matter what program you use for flash. if you use standart USB cabel the phone will refuse older FW and your phone will dead.
The only way to downgrade it is Nokia Service Center
I think they will accept to install the original FW for N80, even now it's with N80I FW
Nokia Service Centres all use Pheonix for their flashing too (that's where we get it from).
The only way I can think of right now that might allow you to do a downgrade flash is if you were to purposefully brick your phone part way through the flashing and the proceed with a dead phone flash.
The standard flashes overwrite the firmware in its entirity so calling an upgrade is actually a bit of a misnomer. All I can think is that Pheonix prechecks the existing firmware to see that you're not trying to downgrade a phone by accident (there really wouldn't be a reason for wanting to do this in a normal situation). Dead phone flashing on the other hand accepts the fact that your phone won't provide details of what it is or what it's running.
Needless to say this is a massivly risky solution and not one I'm prepared to try just for arguements sake, so if you kill it for good I take no responsibility...
Having said that if you do try it and it works let us know 😊
wonder why it can't be downgraded? but im happy with my IE now anyway its a lot faster and has a few new options (removable storage when you put cable in so you dont need pc suite to transfer music 😊)

can someone tell me what is actually different on the new ie firmware compaired to the old n80 firmware.
jedi134: the sip interface (for voip) is the main difference, other than that see this thread
ermmm it ended in .41 i think, i didnt have the option before (im sure i didnt
you can set it so it asks you in the datacable app -it was probably set to pc suite before!(rather than ask) -i was about to go off further topic but i started a new one here talking about the datacable functions.
