At random times my n80 shows an error msg saying: 'App closed: (app name) USER 42'. Even when the app it talks about isnt open. Sometimes more than one of these messages appear, it may even crash the phone!

Well, that says everything. All you have to do is update your firmware.
Actually I have the latest firmware N80 Internet Edition and just started getting the same errors once I switched over to the new firmware. Wondering if this has more to do with some applications that we are installing
Are you using a standard Nokia memory card or is it one you've purchased elsewhere?
If you're using a standard card try a hard reset.
