if so what are they like to fit, and do they fit correctly like the original OEM ones do.

Hi Jedi,

The facias from hong Kong are generally not bad - sometimes the metal border around the glass comes away from the plastic after a while, but can be easily glued back in place.

The keypads are usually not as good as Genuine Nokia parts, and especially the paint wears off the keys through time.

The worst point is that the tool supplied does not always fit properly and strips the heads off the screws holding the facia in place - be very careful there, as damaged screw heads are an easy way for a Nokia NCC engineer to spot you have been inside the handset and they could then refuse you warranty repairs.

Bear in mind that if you have a Silver N80, there will still be parts of the original silver housing visible after fitting a black facia - i.e. the top of the N80 (where the Power off button is located) and behind the screen when the keyboard slider is open.

Apart from the screws issue, they are well worth the £5 to £8 pounds cost. 😉

Thats what I thought, worth the money for new casing etc, how hard are they to fit? This next kit looks a tad tricky as I presume it has all the bits, so no silver parts are showing.

I was worried about scratching my original casing etc.. but now ive seen these kits, I dont have to worry any more😊 just wondering how hard they are to fit.

Quite a LOT of work replacing the inner casing. There's a 5 minute video clip available in one of the threads showing what's involved...

Replacing the front facia is very easy, providing the tool provided fits the 2 special screws holding it in place.

front facia should not be a problem as I have lots of torx bits and will have the right one to fit the screws. As for this video clip thread can you point me in the direction of it, I`ve had a look at nearly all threads on here and cant find it anywhere.

As previously mentioned, changing the whole lot is tricky. The back cover doesn't come off for replacement, it's a matter of taking ALL of the phone innards out of it and putting them all back into the new back cover. Plus, as I found to my cost, the genuine Nokia back cover (at about £35) has all the bits such as the vibrator motor etc already seated, the Hong Kong one doesn't so there's the added matter of using tweezers to remove all these parts from the old cover and then reseating them in the new one. This was one step too far for me and I ended up damaging my phone quite badly and leaving it with a two month visit to a high level service centre.

Other issues are that the 'front back part' (the one you see on the left of the photo in the link) doesn't seem to work in many cases. I've had this issue myself and seen a few other posts on the subject. The part fits just fine and appears identical but the phone, for some reason, doesn't recognise the slider being closed (or opened).

Finally, this kit doesn't have the black keypad bevel so if you're converting from silver you'll need to get one of those separately.

Personally, I love the rubber fascia which is advertised on eBay ... bought a couple of them and they give the phone a whole different feel.

If you still want to go ahead with the conversion then I have the video mentioned, let me know your email address and I'll send it to you.

The only thing i'll add to this is that when I changed the covers on my 6630 and 6680 I had to open them up every month or so to clean the dust out from between the screen and the cover. Once you open them up you always seem to get dust in there no matter how well you seal the screen.

Yes, I find the same with my N80 replacement facia. I do not know how the dust gets in but it seems to find a way...
