i just recently picked up a JAF/PKey flasher (NOT PHOENIX), which supposedly should be able to flash dead bb5 phones via usb (www.odeon.cn), if anybody would like me to try to recover your phones, drop me a message. I'd like to test it out, but don't feel like killing my phone to do so. if you have any interest or any questions, feel free to message or reply here.

How successfull have you been with it?

everbody who said theyd send, never did, so i havent tried it yet, altho i dont think an n80 can be deadphone flashed from usb, i think ive read on other topics you were asking about ur dead n80 ;p mayb with an fbus cable i can do it, but it seems deadphone usb flashing does not work with the n80 ;/ I just placed an order for an f-bus cable for the N80 so if you do want me to try and fix, drop me a pm and i'll tell you where to send.

hopefully this will add light to the end of the tunnel for other people that have bricked their n80. I bricked mine whilst upgrading from N80 to N80ie due to the crappy POP port connector that lost connection halfway through the upgrade (e.g. completely dead and would not turn on under any circumstances - not a glimmer even with the power adapter plugged in).

Anyway I was at the point of returning mine to the Nokia Service Centre with the usual completely naive 'my phone won't turn on' excuse. however my job means that I can't get to a service centre during the week, and the Old Street (London) service centre (+ a number of others) seem to be closed on Saturdays.

I was getting frustrating with not being able to return it, so I thought I'd give it one last try on Phoenix. normally phoenix would not register it at all as it can't even scan the device. however on plugging my phone in with the power adapter attached I noticed that windows recognised a new USB device. so I fired up Phoenix and instead of doing a scan, went to File > Open instead and selected the RM-92 product with the Euro 3 config. I disabled the APE entry (this only installs optional extra apps such as the wizards that I am not interested in) to minimise the firmware install time (that pop port is real flaky).

Low and behold it started communicating with the device. It failed the first couple of times at around 65% losing the connection to the USB device as before, but on the third time it went all the way through and completed the firmware installation.

So I am at last the proud owner of a N80ie. Have even just got SIPgate internet calling to work over Wi-Fi - very cool. Anyway when I have a bit more time I'll try to post the exact steps if anyone else is experiencing the same problems.

Also worth noting (as I remember someone else was asking on this forum), all of this was done on a iMac bootcamped in to Windows!

Hope this helps some of you guys out there who have recently become brickies!

Yeah we people who just bricked their N80's need all the comfort we can get.

I'll try what you suggest....

I simply was too confident as I tried phoenix under Parallels and never again will I do that. It did get to 97% though so that was impressive nonetheless but it's bootcamp from here on in.

Windows can see the device but it's unrecognized.

so after Open you're going straight to Firmeware update?

When I apply F/W update the output says

"Reading phone information
No phone detected!
Get flash filenames

then I get a panel

"Product mode changing before flashing to Normal failed and the phone is also not in ADL mode HRESULT 0x80004005(-2147467259)"

sir kefabean pls give us ur complete step on how u flashed ur dead phone? i have 2 dead phone (n70,nokia 6680) and i am hopeless on what to do about them.. there is no nokia service centers near our place...

im begging.. pls?
:frown:

For what it's worth I ended up buying a JAF flasher to recover my N80 and only FBUS flashing brought it back to life.

Let me just say that you could do worse. I decided to buy a JAF box since I knew that it would last longer than my N80 ... sold my N80 today and upgraded to an N95 but my JAF box will work once I get the FBUS cable for the N95. JAF isn't that expensive when you think about it.

Could you tell me how to contact Charlie. I have a 2 month old N80IE that is bricked after trying to update to firmware v5. I was using the NSU and it completely downloaded, as soon as it started to install the phone went dead.
My Info is as follows.

Well where are you? I was in London last week and saw in Chinatown they have bb5 flashing there at a shop just near the chinese grocers.

Where is CbCharlie located. I have been trying to make contact so I can send my phone, but haven't gotten a reply. Can you help with some info.

I have a N80 that bricked up during a failed update session. I think my battery died during the update. Now the thing wont even power up even w/ the power cord. Tried *+3+green key and nothing.
Being in the US I really think I'm screwed. But your postings have me holding on to a glimmer of hope. Please let me know if you'd like to take a crack at undoing whatever I have done.
Till then, brother.

Strange when I tried to recently update my N95 using NSU it specifically checked the battery level and told me that I couldn't update unless I plugged in my charger. At that time I changed to a 100% battery and it worked after that. So it's my opinion that NSU does in fact check the battery level of your phone before commencing the update.

Hi,

I just have installed Nokia Software Updater for N80 Internet Edition.

I followed the instructions, The firmware version of my N80 were going to change from 4.0632.0.38 to 5.0719.0.2.

Almost at the end of the process, I had to take out the battery, then disconnect the usb cable, after that put the battery, turn on the phone and connect the usb cable.....

But, at this time.... the phone didnt start up....

I am really worry because even though I tried to charge the battery, the phone doesnt turn on any led.... Is now a dead phone....

Please help me with some advices.....

Is there any other flashing sw instead of Nokia updater???? Please help me with some links

I had the same happen with my 1 month old N80IE. Your phone is dead or bricked as they call it. You will need to take it to a Nokia service center or in my case I found a great guy on this forum named CbCharlie that just informed me that my phone is now alive and well. You committed the greatest Nokia sin by disconnecting your phone during a firmware update. In my case the pop port disconnected itself, same result.
