OfficeSuite affecting other apps

Has anyone had problems running OfficeSuite on a 5500?

Yesterday I installed the demo and played it with it a while, making and saving a Word doc. I closed it and played with some other apps, and everything was fine. This morning, I turned on my phone, and several of my apps wouldn't open. This includes apps that I installed and those that shipped with the phone. I couldn't open Snake or Groove Lab, Adobe Reader, Qreader, Y-Brower, Calcium and others, but I could open the Nokia Calculator, Themes, Sport, the radio, and music player. And OfficeSuite wouldn't open.

OfficeSuite was the last app I installed, so I tried to remove it to see if that would do anything. The progress bar moved 80% of the way, then I was told it couldn't be fully removed. But then I could open Adobe Reader and all the other apps that wouldn't open before.

I shut down the phone, powered up, and then was able to successfully remove OfficeSuite. Now all my other apps are now working fine.

Anyone else have this problem? Or is anyone using OfficeSuite on a 5500 and not having any problems at all?

Hi --

I tried to change the title of the thread, but I couldn't, nor did I want to start a brand-new one.

So after playing around awhile looking for other word processing apps, I'm still running into the same problem. After all that I described in the above post, I installed Mobile Office, which worked immediately after the install, but after powering down and back up, my phone couldn't open it as well as several other apps (same situation as described above).

So I removed it, and I got Adobe Reader, QReader and all the games to work again. Powered down and back up, and it all worked. Then I installed Papyrus and a new theme, and the scenario happened again! After removing and getting back to a working but stock phone, I installed QuickOffice v4 beta, which I paid for assuming that, barring the beta-ness, I shouldn't have any problems with a reputable app. But again, everything on my phone worked until I powered it down and back up. So now I've removed it and got back to a phone that functions fully but minimally.

Does anyone have any ideas why this may be happening? I'm installing everything on the 64MB card that came in the box. I've removed all the language packs except French and English. Otherwise, I haven't modded anything. My installs are two themes (native ones I got off Mobilethemes.com) and Calcium and Qreader. I have two PDFs (one is a 2MB magazine, though) and for media/image files, only two short mp3 ringtones I made myself and one pic. No videos.

I've had this phone less than one week, too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

confused,
Rick

You mean MobiSystems OfficeSuite 3?

Have You tried formatting the 64MB card? Backup files to PC, format and install apps again. That is the 1st thing I´d do.

no, I hadn't tried that. Thanks.

I erased that 2MB pdf magazine and reinstalled QuickOffice. It's working now, opening a Word doc and allowing me to edit. But I don't have much on the memory card, so I can easily reformat it and see.

Check you've got enough working space on C: - there's a bug in S60 which means that SIS files don't get removed properly from \Installed files.

Also, Qo4's preview edition has a bugette wherein it squirrels away space on C unnecessarily and doesn't release it again 8-( - I had to factory restore my 5500 and rebuild....

Thanks, Steve.

I never did the reformat, as everything seems to be working as I want it now.

I did check C:/Data/Install and C:/System/Install, and there was nothing in there, save for empy log and registry folders in the System one.

Steve: What does it mean that you had to facroty restore and rebuild? Should I be wary of QO4?

No, I was testing a Qo4 release candidate and have reported my problems. I'm pretty sure they'll roll in fixes to the full release. Also, my issues were related to the Nokia 5500 - losing 3MB of flash memory on most smartphones is irrelevant - losing that on a 5500, which only has 7 free to start with..... 8-)
