Bluetooth, Windows XP and the case of the missing Bridge

Hello!

First off, I just want to say how incredible this forum is. I've never seen a forum so well run by people who are so helpful and so...so...nice! I've been hanging around reading posts since my sister got her 7650 and I've been hooked since! Bit the bullet and bought my own...and a bloody good phone it is too!

...But, I've been having a few problems. I think I've deciphered from various posts that the PCSuite doesn't work with XP...But I've seen some posts that say that it does, but don't say how to get it working. First I had problems with BSODs when my USB Bluetooth Adapter (A Mitsumi) software tried to install the Virtual Serial Port. That's all sorted...but now I've got a ? next to 'Bluetooth COM Bridge' in control panel because it can't find a driver. I've searched high and low for a Bluetooth Stack (which I think is what I need) but can't find one anywhere. Becuase I can't assign a COM port for mRouter I can't load PCSuite.

Phew.

I hope at least some one can understand all that. I have searched through the groups for answers but can't find any current posts, but If there is something and I've missed it I do apoligise. If anyone could help me it would be great!!!! Thanks for any help in advance.

Tricky one, that is 😃 Im happy I dont have XP installed 😃
Welcome to the forum 😃
That BT stack comes in the installer of the BT driver. But you should check
that you have the newest one.
Or wait untill ?january? for new PC Suite which works with XP ...maybe 😃

Yeah, I guess I could wait. But without the 'bridge' and without mRouter seeing the connection I'm guessing even the new version won't find it.

My main problem with all this is not being able to install programs and sort out my numbers from my old phone.

Any other takers??

You allso might check if Mitsumi's bluetooth adapter uses Wildcom.
Some of them dont you know.
I think that i've read some problem with Mitsumi and Bemused.
Try searhing the forum, you might find some more answers.

Try to download software drivers and BT stack software for other Dongles like the MSI etc. they might work too.

first of all.......

PC SUITE WORKS with XP.....i have reformat my HD several times and have reinstalled PC suite with no problems. Try to update your XP

second......

I strongly suggest MSI bluetooth as i found it to be the best. It is a class A product (highest TX power).

It works for some users, oficially its not supported under XP,so you cant say "it does work".

Okay, there goes my plans to install XP over Xmas.

PC Suite works weird on my Win2K box. 2 mRouters show up in the system tray. Both work. *puzzled*

The problem you are going to have getting the Mitsumi BT stuff working with mRouter is that mRouter won't connect with the PC Suite unless there is a link that the PC Suite can use - also, mRouter won't establish a link to your 7650 with the Mit-BT dongle until there is a request to establish one...

The problem is, you cannot get your 7650 to create the link - it has to be put in place before you start PC Suite (which is why PC Suite complains there isn't a route) - precisely the same problem I had getting PC Suite to work with the Mit-BT dongle...

The way around this is to install the Mitsumi drivers from the CD (or downloaded from their site), uninstall it (yup, you read right 😃 ) then install the Cyber Blue 'Blue Manager'. It seems that the Blue Manager creates this virtual link that PC Sutie needs... and hey presto, it works a treat...

Just as soon as I can shoehorn the troublesome Mitsumi drivers off my XP box at home, Cyber Blue here we come 😃

Hmmm...Intersesting. I had a reply off Mitsumi today...

Dear customer,

please send the Bluetooth-Kit to the following address:

Mitsumi Electronics Europe GmbH
z.Hd. Herr Karatas
Hammer Landstrae 98
41460 Neuss

Your Kit will be replaced by the new one with Widcom-software.

If you have any further questions or problems do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,
Your Mitsumi-Support-Team

Thomas Povazai

Now, What I need to know is:

is it better to:

a. Send it back to get Widcomm version and have to wait 'not-even-god-knows-how-long'.

or

b.Try to force this apparently non Widcomm compatible version?

Thanks!

PS I don't think this is asking for warez but where can I find the Cyber Blue 'Blue Manager'? Is it free? oops...Haven't searched yet...<searching>...big oops...Found it! Sorry!!! (I see what you mean about the non-searching thing now 😊

I'm having problems with the Mitsumi dongle/XP/PC Suite combination as well.

Actually, the question mark next to the Bluetooth COM bridge in Device Manager is quite normal. That doesn't mean it doesn't have a driver for the device, it just means that Windows doesn't know how to categorise the device, so it puts it in 'Other Devices'. If you double-click it, the device should still say 'working properly'. It did on mine anyway. I don't think that's the problem.

We've got a few threads going about this particular BT dongle. There might be other stuff to help you on:

Personally, I don't think it's going to work with XP and PC Suite. I'd be delighted if someone proved me wrong though.

I tried this yesterday. I don't mean to put a damper on things, but removing the Mitsumi software from 'add/remove programs' in XP takes the bluetooth drivers with it. Which makes sense - if you're removing the software, the uninstall program assumes you won't want the bluetooth adapter drivers lying around either. So once you reboot, the dongle is left without a driver (with an exclamation mark in device manager).

I even tried to fool XP by copying the driver file(s) from c:\windows\system32\drivers onto the desktop before uninstalling, then uninstalled, rebooted and copied the files back to where they were before and updated the driver in device manager.

Even with the Blue Manager software installed I still had the same problem with PC Suite. I've tried every combination of driver and software I can think of, and the &^%&%^ thing still won't communicate with PC Suite!!

What seems to bother me is that how come it works for some and does not for others? I suggest after clean install of XP you update the XP with SP1 and other updates then try installing PC Suite

I am getting the same problem with my mitsumi bluetooth adapter and pc suite.

I have tried a combination of the mistumi software, blue manager and mrouter and still not getting a connection.

Its really frustrating now, any suggestions or should I bite the bullet and send it back to god knows where

The problem is - whose fault is it?

Is it Mitsumi's for the adapter or is it Nokia's for building a poor version of PC Suite??

Mitsumi's software is basic, but at least it let's you transfer files between your phone and Windows. Can we blame them when there are clearly issues surrounding PC Suite running on XP anyway?? I don't think we should. XP was released by Microsoft over a year ago now, but Nokia still haven't built a version of PC Suite that is fully compatible with it.

It seems to me that Nokia are as bad at producing software as Microsoft are at producing phones.
