it sucks dude... i was trying to read a simple bar code from a biscuit packet... it keeps on zooming and using the phones 3Mpx cam and the FLASH! but no results....after a long time it goes to standby..... waste of power!!!!

any one got luck with it????😡 😡

That last code was almost immediate. But any other... like "karthikeyan10" said, not even a biscuit packet! Why:con? The phone must operate vertical, isnt it?

That's because this is a 2D (matrix) Barcode reader, not a 1D (linear) barcode reader.

2D codes can contain a lot more infortmation that the old 1D codes. A 1D linear code for a long URL would be pretty big ! 😊

Now, read this....

I understand that! That last code, also no problem. But on our world of today, is more useful read the linear codes, that this 2D codes. And I was unable to perform that.
The phone must work on vertical position? And the linear code must be between the two red lines? Is that way that should work? Thanks.

1D barcodes are more difficult to read but I have successfully managed to read some here. You must make sure the code is flat and not distorted. They are also more susceptible to "interference" in between the lines. If you try scanning a linear barcode from a monitor, the lines on your monitor can make it very difficult to read. 2D codes are much more forgiving and also contain loads more info.

Thanks for your explanation. Until now, I was unable to read one... even with flat surface and in good condition. If it keeps that way, the bar code reader application is useless.

Why is it useless ????

How often would you want to read a barcode of numbers from a biscuit packet ?!?!?!

The 2D barcodes are a million times better and contain more information, and you don't have a problem with those 😊

Maybe not a biscuit packet, but other codes. I agree with you, the 2D codes are better, but they are also rare... On my front I have a MS Mouse, with the linear code. I was unable to read that one too, like all others I have try. At least, until the 2D codes are spread, the application is useless.

So start spreading !! 😊 😉

I am using the firmware from 3UK, we dont have the download! app or the catalogs on my n73.

I'm hoping someone could upload the file for the n73.

Thanks!

And there's the problem with branded software. Pointless limitations imposed by dictatorial network providers 😡

Well, you have 3 options.

1. Wait for an upgrade to the "3" branded firmware and hope it is included.

2. Upgrade your phone's firmware to a generic type by changing the product code.

3. Wait unitl Nokia post the .sis on their website

OK I've put my impervious hat on so I won't hear you all laughing at me, but what do you want a bar code reader for? what am I missing and am I missing out??:con?
