Hi everyone.
Thought it might be a good idea to sign up here and get some advice.
I got my N80 late November and I've had a hard time finding good apps for it. Most of those I've tried I got an error on. Why is this?
Also, what's the "Series 60". "Series 80". "Series 90" all about? What's the difference?
I've read up and found some info on Series 60 v3 (N80) - but what's the thing with it?
And can I remove the Operator name?
I feel somewhat lost. Usually I customize my cell phone and gadgets instantly but I have a hard time with this one.
Also any tips for good theme sites would be much appreciated. Currently I've plowed my way trough those listed on google when searching but I'm not impressed so I'm still using "Nokia".
Thank you very much!
Kind regards,
Mr.Holden
Make sure that the applications you download are for Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition or Version 3.
Other versions do not work...
--------------
you can go to mobile9.com for free games, themes and apps
Make sure you choose the Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition or Version software.
--------------
Series 60 is used by your phone... (specifically 3rd edition)
Series 80 is used by the Nokia Communicators ( the phones that are 9xxx)
--------------
You can't remove the operator name ( i think....)
You can replace it with an operator logo...
Thanks raynos13! That was my exact problem. None of the apps I got was v3.
What's the deal with this anyway?

Basically its just like a new operating system, just as some programs wont work with windows 95 or 98 that are designed for windows XP
Series 90 is the Nokia 7710 Internet Tablet
------
Cash is right... 😊 , they are just incompatible....
Series 90 was used on the the "Nokia 7710" phone (and its limited-availability predecessor the 7700). Neither one have/had "Internet Tablet" in their names.
There's the "Nokia 770 Internet Tablet" is based on Debian Linux. It is not a phone, and has nothing to do with the 7700 or 7710 (except that all are manufactured by Nokia and their "names" start with "77"😉.
Thanks guys.
Anyone know how I can either remove the operator name or change it? I read that all one needed was an updated version of a file manager. Is this true, and has anyone done it?
I also got some games but they're not playing in full screen. Is there anyway I can upscale the game and force it to run in full screen?
if you try and upscale the game the graphics will look horrible, i tried it once, the reason they are not in full screen is becasue they are not the right games for your phone, the sceen size is different.
Not sure on the operator logo thing, you may well have to have a look at oxygen phone manager for symbian phones as this may well be able to do it, but like i said im not 100% sure on this,
Pete
Great, I'll see if I can find the oxygen phone manager then.
Is there anyway I can customize the apps listed in standby main window? I would like others there. In example I don't use the default web browser, I use Opera Mini. So I would like to swap out the link to the web browser with an icon for Opera instead.
yeah you can change active standy by apps by going to:
tools>settings>phone>standyby mode and making sure active standby is on.
then an extra field choice appears under 'right selection key' as a menu called Active standby Apps...
you can choose what you want (up to 6 shortcuts) in there 😊
Thanks a bunch kontraband! All icon for all apps seems to be looking fine on that menu but the Opera Mini one. Just what I needed. Oh well, I can test Opera Browser.
No worries Mr. H.
BTW, do you mean that the opera icon is just small where as the others are larger icons??
My opera icon is 'mini' too.. thats just the way it is.
Or did you mean something else? 😊
No, when I put it on the standby menu it's twice as large as any other icon. So all I ce of the O is C.
One more question on the fly; I got some of the Handy apps. But they're automatically loaded into the phone memory when I restart.
I don't want that. Ie. when I hold the menu button in it opens Handy Tool instead of the short list of open applications.
Do I have to uninstall the apps if I don't want them to load automatically?
erm.... ok... thats weird... my opera is a mini O... so it fits without a problem.
Maybe try removing opera and reinstalling?
BTW, I have no knoweldge on Handyapps.
Took a screenie of it:

I knew that screen capture app would come in handy!
Edit: "You are only allowed to post website or email links after you have made 10 posts or more."
What a dull thing...
Oh yeah, that is a pretty LARGE icon innit...
Where did you DL Opera mini from?? Opera or elsewhere??
Opera.com 😊
Isn't there Flight Mode on this phone?
Opera.com... Hmm , same here... but my icon is fine.
Flight mode = Offline mode.
You may download the latest trial version of Oxygen Phone Manager II for Symbian OS Phones here. Please note that for the phoen N80 you will need the OPMAgent_S60_3_0_v_3_1.sis.
Thanks Oxygen Support. I've already tested it but couldn't find an option to alter the operator logo/name.
