Hi guys hope you can help or shed some light.
My answerphone icon is permanently stuck on the top right hand corner even though I dont have voice mail.
I have tried switching my phone off and then on again multiple times but to no avail. I have also left myself a voicemail and deleted it but still the icon remains.
I rang orange, and they said its a known fault and are in talks with Nokia on how to resolve this!! Has anyone else come across this and if so how have you fixed it. I have the latest firmware 4.0623.0.42
Your help will be appreciated.
Hiya,
I had a similar problem but my voicemail icon didn't come on at all. Orange were very helpful, and eventually traced the problems to messages stored on my SIM-card....go to Messages-SIM Messages and delete anything there (texts should be stored on your phone memory)....cycle your phone's power and try again.
Hope it works!
Ian
How do i go to Messages-SIM Messages ??
found the sim messages. tried it and it didnt work.
thanks to knightyno11 for this tip, i hope it works for you....let me know
"yeah its definately an answerphone message icon, i had the same problem, the icon was ever present even with no message, i corrected the problem eventually by leaving myself a message from a landline, listerning to it, deleting it, but don't exit the answer phone untill the icon disappears"
Unfortunately that still didnt work for me. I did actually log the fault with Orange months ago but nobody got back to me, considering the effort it took to get the problem across to them in the first place I really can't be bothered to try again.
did you leave the answer machine on like it says or did you disconnect straight away????
I left the answerphone on until it started to go through the various options, but it didnt work.
I too have the same problem with my N80. I have tried ringing orange for them to sort something out with my profile. The girl did some profile tweak and sent me a couple of voice messages which I deleted but to no avail. I have even had a new N80 (to resolve another problem) yet the voicemail icon still appears. Also when I reset my phone I am still told that I have 1 new message. This leads me to believe it is a sim or network related issue. If I get any further on this I will let you know as its really bugging me too!
I had this problem a short while ago and it was stuck on for 5 weeks. I spoke to Orange who confirmed they had reported the fault to Nokia and were waiting for a response. Eventually I put my sim in another phone then rang my mobile from a different phone and left a voicemail message. When I retrieved it and deleted it then ended the call the voicemail symbol vanished. I put the sim back into my N80 and it's been fine ever since. If ever it sticks again I'll do the same thing.
How about if the voicemail is off completely (nobody can leave a message) and the symbol still appears? This is what is happening to a friend of mine who is with orance, he called them, they told him to turn his phone off, leave it for an hour, turn it back on. Nothing happened. He's still stuck with the voicemail symbol. He had it on his previous phone, as well, and could not get rid of it.
has anyone managed to sort this problem out yet?
what did you do in the end?
I am also on orange and also have this icon appearing. What confuses me is that it's not quite the same as the normal voicemail icon is it? The left circle (or reel) has a bleck dot inside, but this does not show up anywhere in the manual.

I have this too - have done all the orange CS stuff as mentioned on this thread, all the CS people leaving me messages and then deleting them, all of it. I did a complete reset on my phone to no avail. I also flashed the firmware up to the latest, non-orange version and still have the problem.
I'm glad too that you noticed the black dot in this icon as I did, also, when I get a real message, there are sometimes two messages when I turn on the phone: 'new voicemail message line 1' and 'new voicemail message'
this is really bugging me - due to working in local telly I have to turn my phone off all the time and when I turn it on I've taken to having to check the voicemail each time just in case, as I missed an important message a few weeks ago. (thank god Orange give you a missed call text)

Yes, your problem as described is exactly the same as mine. It's the same for me where, when I turn my phone on after being left a real voicemail, I get the other message "New voicemail message live 1" as well as the ordinary one, and it's annoying to have to selet the right one. If I knew that something, somewhere was being done about then I would feel a bit better about it.
Does anyone have knowledge of any developments from orange/nokia on this matter?
Have had the same problem myself since before xmas.
Spoken to Orange a number of times, they tell me it's a known issue and are trying to sort it out with Nokia but it doesn't look like there's much urgency there.
It's so annoying.
Anyhow I was considering flashing with latest firmware but noticed one or two people said it didn't make any difference.
Before I go to the bother, has anyone had any luck with this method?
Or can anyone suggest anything to resolve the issue?
As I stated earlier, I put my sim in another phone then rang my mobile from a different phone and left a voicemail message. When I retrieved it and deleted it then ended the call the voicemail symbol vanished. I put the sim back into my N80 and it's been fine ever since.

Thanks for this solution. This has vexed me for ages. Now, for the first time in months, the voicemail icon has disappeared from my phone!
