and this method works for hiding 'other' pictures too, should you need to. 😎
Test done using the memory card reader method for ease and speed and all info found via google at http://www.seventy4.co.uk/weblog/2006/09/29/tomtom-images-appearing-in-gallery/
If you’ve installed TomTom onto your N80 and you now have lots of extra images in your gallery (e.g. map images, speed camera icons, etc), here’s how to fix it:
Either connect the N80 up to your PC with the cable and select “Data Transfer”, use Y-Browser or a card reader on your PC to make all of the TomTom folders hidden.
The folders include:
ITN
LICENCES
RASTER
TOMTOM
VOICES
ZIP
(Any Map Names)
Next, temporarily rename all of the above folders (just put an “X” in front of the name)
Put the card back in/disconnect the cable and open up the gallery
You may get a lot of “broken” images appearing in the gallery, press “C” to delete them. It will say it failed but the thumbnail will disappear.
Rename all of the folders back, but keep them hiddenAfter doing all the above, your gallery should be clear of extra TomTom images. This can also work for any ‘’Private'’ images you may want to keep hidden…
Do you just need to hide the listed folders or all of the ones included in the TomTom disk (and folders within them).
Can anyone explain why you have to change the names of the folders by adding the x - and if you change the names using the cad reader do you change them back using file manager when the card is put back into the phone.
I have had one shot (partially successful) and had problems with the .trashes folder and multiple folders called data and system.
Any advice welcomed!!!
The temporary renaming is so that when you delete the thumbnails from the gallery it doesn't actually delete the original file (as it's in a "new" folder).
The gallery then removes the reference to the original folder name and it's then safe to rename the folder back..
You'll need to rename any folder that have images in them.
It doesn't work for me. If I rename the folders the images still appear in the gallery and aren't broken either. If I delete the picture regardles, it deletes it from the memory card and knackers up TomTom finding them.
Why does it still detect my images wherever they are on the memory card?
when I did it I only hid the folders listed in the instructions, as well as leaving anything that was 'already' hidden.
Then renamed the files and followed the instructions.
When I went into picture gallery, there were 2 tomtom files that when I clicked 'C' to delete them, they didnt go, or rather went but came back... As if I was just deleting the top one of the pile and once that was gone another appeared above it. After about 5 or 6 'C's on both piles there were only the images Id took with my camera.
I have loads of games on my phone and plenty of images elsewhere, but these dont show in Gallery... it was just tomtom and photos.
ALSO moylesey, all the filename changing I did was done on the card reader...
