Upgrade time, UIQv3 or S60v3 from s80?

I was in exactly the same boat about 3 months ago.
I had a 9300i and 'thought' I wanted a more modern phone with all the extra features (push email, camera, 3G etc) and got an E70 thinking, being their business line, it would satisfy all my needs.
Truth is, I have put the E70 back in its box and use the 9300i again.
S60v3 is nowhere near as professional as S80, the calendar, contacts, speaker phone, messaging etc are all way inferior. Plus, the wide screen and keyboard are unbeatableon the communicator.
I am trialing RoadSync for the push email and dont use 3G so I will stick with it! As for the camera, well I just live without it - not really a problem.
My advice is either wait for the rumoured E90 or (reluctantly) go for a WM5 device. I used to have a JasJar which really was superb. In its early days it was pretty unreliable but I reckon that would no longer be the case. WM5 has far superior software availability and of course it syncs right out of the box.

Thats my 2c's worth

Like you, about 4 months ago I thought the same. I bought an E61. I was back to S80 within two weeks.

I second what mmark said above. May I suggest that you try to test whatever device you think is right *before* you commit for as long as you can if possible.

Good luck...

I use Tomtom alot and would like to be able to keep up with the latest maps as I travel alot in the UK and there are alot of changes in a year, and that isn't possible with the s80.

I also use TomTom and agree with you. TomTom 6 runs on the E70 with the latest maps and seamless western europe. Obviously the 9300i only runs TomTom 5

***HOWEVER*** TomTom 6 maps work on TomTom 5 V5.20 and above!!!!!!

So you CAN have the latest maps on the 9300i HOORAY. There are of course a few new features in TomTom 6 but ultimately, it is the maps that matter and they are compatible (I am using them now!!).
Also, the screen on the E70 is far too small to use properly for TomTom, the icon representing current position is almost too small to be seen.

Keep the commie, you know you want to!

I'd keep the communicator for while and wait for the E90 replacement with a new higher resolution screen and hopefully better keyboard.

I've got a UIQ 3.0 phone several key items of software are missing 8 months on and it's still got faults with sound quality on bluetooth.

My hope is that this arriving as S60v3 will encourage some software ports from other symbian versions.

What about keeping upto date with office software? (word/excel)
It seems 'Documents 2 Go' is not going anywhere and the new stuff is on the newer platforms?

I have been using TomTom Mobile V5.2 on my Nokia 6680 both in UK and Florida for a while and the only critisism I have is that the screen is too small for some of the features.

I am swapping my 6680 soon for a 9500 due to needing the wireless functionality.

Will I be able to use my TomTom Mobile V5.2 on the 9500?

I am using TomTom 5.20 on my 9300i so no reason it shouldn't work on the 9500.
If you purchase the newer maps, you need a specific build.
The ones to use are version 660 build 1223 these work flawlessly with 5.20

Hope this helps!

Cheers mmarks 😊

I didnt buy my tomtom mobile, my boss gave it to me when he got a car with inbuilt satnav and I got an upgrade to V5.2 from the tomtom website.

How can I tell which version maps I have?

Well, I made a cock up!

The TomTom I have is only version 5

I have put my card into the 9500 (which I picked up today) and the TomTom icon appears on the screen. When I select the TomTom icon though, I get the error "Note. System: Unable to find the specified object."

The TomTom website says that Mobile 5 is compatible with the Nokia 9500 but even after a complete format of the 9500 I still get the same error 😞

Did you get the s80 version or the s60 version?

Yess how do you make sure you get build 1223? Can you specify to Tomtom when you order?

I must have the S60 version I think as that is the 6680 one isnt it? I dont mind buying another TomTom as I got the first one free, but I dont want to buy it if it doesnt work.
