A newbie question about SD card in my new E61

My new E61 came with 64MB SD Card which is getting rapidly filled up with all kinds of stuff. I now want to upgrade my card. In this regard I have three questions-

1) What the max size E61 will support?

2) Once I have, say a new 1 GB card, how do I go about putting it in the phone in a manner so that I get everything back in it which was there in 64MB card? I mean I know how to safely take out the existing card but how do I transfer its contents into the new card????

3) What's the difference between backing up your phone via PC suite vs backing it up onto the SD card (as advised by NSU program) and if I am using NSU, is it required to do backup on card only and not on PC Suite. Also is the SD card supposed to be removed from phone during update?

I think you mean a mini-SD card!
1. 2GB
2. The easiest way if you have a card reader is to use Windows to copy from the 64MB card to the new card.
3. Backing up to the card saves the data on the card whereas if you use PC suite you can save the data on the PC.
If the phone is new then what are you going to back up?

Put your 64MB card in a card reader and copy everything on your PC (don't forget to copy the hidden files as well if any). Then put the your new card in the card reader and copy everything to your new card as it was on the old one. If you do not have a memory card reader on your PC, connect your phone with the old card in it to your PC via the USB cable and choose "Data Transfer". Then follow the same procedure.

Nokia won't tell you what's backed up and what's not so i don't know. In my experience, backing up on the SD card backs up all your settings, messages etc as well as some applications but not all (it seems to be completely random). I *think* that PC Suite does not backup the applications at all. Note that Nokia backup tools are most unreliable. I've always so far managed to restore all my messages, notes and appointments but applications are often not restored at all or restored but have lost registration info and settings in the process. Do not rely on Nokia's backup tools. Always sync your phone with outlook and use a pen and a piece of paper to write down any important info you've got on your phone and make a list of all the applications you've got on your phone before attempting a firmware update.

Having or not having the SD card in your phone during the firmware update doesn't matter (tried both). The firmware update doesn't touch it (but it causes a good number of applications on it to stop working or get corrupted forcing your to re-install most of them).

thanks elp for yr wonderful reply. REP !!!

The data transfer trick was a neat one...save me from buying a card reader !!

Hi,

I've been using a Nokia 6600 for the past couple of years. Today I got myself a new E61 with a 2GB mini-SD card. Now I am having all sorts of problems transferring my data, contacts etc from the old 6600 to the new E61. The two have different versions of the PC Cuite software which do not talk!

What should I do???
