Contact Names Not Showing In Messages

Hello Chaps,

Am using an E50, brand new, but messages from certain people aren't showing up with names in the sender field, only with a number. I don't have these numbers duplicated anywhere, and this phenomenon of the names not showing up only seems to happen with certain contacts, and perhaps half of the time. Is this a bug in the firmware perhaps?:con?

Never had it happen on my e50. Try resetting the phone and see. In any case there is a new firmware out for the e50 just today I believe. Am waiting on the reports / changelog before trying to do the update. Hearing lots of horror stories about NSU/N73 bricking phones, may just wait a while for Nokia to make things a bit more reliable.

Where can you see IF there is any fw update? And what it is supposed to do better?

You have to install Nokia Software Updater. The e50 is one of the phones where you do not need to go to a service center to update the firmware or basic OS as it were, you can do it yourself. However, this is a fairly new feature Nokia has started (I believe sony ericsson have had it for quite some more time) and has had some glitches also. You need to be quite careful in following the instructions quite precisely.

New firmware usually fix minor (and in some cases major) glitches that are discovered after release of the phone. e.g. in the e50, sms sending used to be very slow and they have released an application 'sms accelerator' which after I installed it has certainly speeded up the sms sending process. Nokia does not release much info however.

In case of the e50, so far users have reported that the new firmware improves speed, memory leaks and java app implementation.
