I noticed a folder entitled PAlbTN which contained duplicates of each image in the general image folder. I have since found out that this is means "Photo Album Thumbnail" and is a collection of thumbnailes generated by the phone, and is ok to delete.

However, what does the folder "R" relate to?

What R folder mate? I have a N71 and only have the PAlbTN folders. Can you put a screenshot up?

Figured it out in the end. Similar to the PAlbTN folder (cache of thumbnails), R relates to images which have been rotated in the gallery.
