Hi, at our university, we have wireless internet.
To connect to it, we need to install a VNP client on our laptops.
I am trying to connect using the n80. It is said that for other types of VPN client (other than windows and mac), I need to enter this profile information:
You need to create a profile within your VPN client that you will use to authenticate yourself to the University ...Server Name: xx
Group Name: xx
Group Password: xx
I downloaded the VPN client from here: europe.nokia.com/A4149142
After installing it, I wasn't able to find the required information.
What steps do I need to take to make this work?
Thanks.
MENU > TOOLS > SETTINGS > CONNECTION > VPN
Then you need to define your servers which can be done by adding your information into the VPN settings and it should update your policy for your VPN automatically.
You need to create a VPN policy.
Pardon my newbizm... Lets say I want to VPN in to our enterprise network... Obviously I would need to have "Internet" or some type of "data" access activated on my phone plan first so that my phone can get on the web and connect using a VPN client on my phone. Is this accurate?
Right now, I just have a standard phone plan with no Internet. The only time I can get Internet access is if I tap in to a free wifi hotspot. I can probably use wifi then VPN in to our network but "free" wifi hotspots in my area are few and far between.
Sorry to barge in to another thread. If I need to create a new one, please let me know.
Yeah, I thought the deal with the N80 VPN was that your network needed a Nokia VPN server or something, or we needed to create our own profile SIS file on the computer before hand.
I will gladly be corrected if that is not the case.
knuckleskin, thats my understanding too... there nees to be nokia at both ends.
this from the nokia site:
The solution consists of Nokia Mobile VPN Client and Nokia Security Service Manager that interoperate with Check Point VPN-1 software running on Nokia IP security platforms. Please consult you corporate IT department on how to configure the Nokia Mobie VPN solutuion for your corporate network.
You need to have a Nokia VPN gateway with its Nokia Security Service Manager server to create/manage the Nokia Mobile VPN client policy files, or take a "do-it-yourself" route as attempted here:

This is not correct. There is no need for any nokia support on vpn server side. All you need to do is to create a policy with vpn settings given by network administrator and install it in your nokia phone.
I created a policy myself and was able to connect N80 to my school's vpn server without any problem.

Where/how did you do it? Did you follow the instructions from the VPN program or create your own profile? It might be that Nokia updated the VPN program since I used it.
Go to N/A's link to learn how to create your own policy.
