I have (had) a Nokia N73 on 3 UK since 14/12/06....less than a week ago, when receiving a call, if I attempted to answer the phone, the ringtone would stop but display that a call was still incoming.... I would continue to try and answer the call, but nothing would work until eventually, the phone would restart.
I contacted 3 who advised me to take it to a Nokia Service Point (which I did today) who just said all they would do is update the firmware... I advised them I had already used NSU to look for updated firmware, but there wasn't any. They told me to contact 3 and ask for a replacement...
When contacting 3, they were pretty reluctant, but have taken the phone today. I have to wait 3 days for the repair and don't get a replacement in the meantime! ...(Bad huh!)
So I have to wait now, 3 days (5 inc the weekend) before I get it back...
Reading threads here, I hadn't known about changing the product code and upgrading firmware to ME or IE. I am worried about "bricking" my phone...how many have successfully upgraded and which version would you suggest?
Thanks guys...
P.S ...did anyone else experience similar probs with the N73?
I successfully upgraded mine to ME. Really easy and well worth doing!
Ive heard of all sorts of problems with N73, rebooting themselves included. Id imagine 3 will just upgrade the firmware for you, my advice would be to do it again when you get it back so tis debranded. 😊
Yeah, think I will do...just hope I do get it back asap...can't believe they wouldn't provide a replacement in the meantime!
Thanks for your advice though. Which version do you feel is better? IE or ME? or have you only tried ME?

Ive only tried ME. Its a massive improvment though, dont think id bother changing it to IE cus i rarely use wap.
I'm running Internet Edition (product code 0539366) and had no problems. Only gripe is that the new 'internet' folder on the menu did not contain some apps like MSN and links to GMAIL etc and when I restored my settings from either Nokia Software Suite or memory card the 'internet' folder dissapeared all together. Seems it only works properly on Asian phones.
A lot of people don't like the text font that comes with Internet Edition, it's slightly blocky but I'm used to it now.
I'd recommend upgrading to ME (product code 0537289 Euro1) as the music player gets some really good extras. Album art and the Stereo Widening features are great. IE gets these too but the internet folder isn't worth it.
TIP: turn on stereo widening and play a song on your phone though it's own speakers. Hold your phone horizontally at eye level about 20cms from your face (so you can read the 'Nokia' sign the back) and wait for your ears to do weird things!!!
Only gripe I can see with Music Edition is that that the multimedia key goes straight into the music player instead of being offered slide show, radio etc. Internet Edition keeps this original function. Music Edition does keep the nice smooth font though.
Well, I got my phone back from 3 this morning (pretty quick bearing in mind they picked it up Thurs at 4pm!)
It looks like all they've done is flash the firmware, but still the same as before;
V 2.0628.0.0.1
10-07-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (54.06)
Anyone think it's worthwhile me changing the product code and flashing to another version? If so, what codes should I use? (Bear in mind i'm in the UK please).
Absolutely worth it !!
Use 0537289 which is the UK Music Edition. Not only does it give you a much better Music Player, but also loads of bug fixes and increased stability. I did my Orange N73 and I have just done my friends "3" N73 and he loves it !
There's plenty of good, useful info here to help you do it 😊
Thanks for the help...
I've read up that I could lose my applications like MSN Messenger and Planet 3...is that right?
Yes, but you can get stuff like Messenger as a separate download anyway. As for the 3 specific stuff, you may lose that permanently.
Turn OFF 3D-Tones.
You will now be able to answer calls.
