As i've posted in the last few days, I successfully managed to update my firmware from 3's generic firmware (product code 0541479) ;
V 2.0628.0.0.1
10-07-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (54.06)
I was upgraded to the most recent ME edition;
V3.0638.0.0.30
30-10-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (01)
However, I just went to restore my data that I backed up prior to the update, and now my phone has bricked and states;
"Phone start-up failed. Contact retailer"
I know some people have recovered their phones from this, but I can't fine this thread now! ....Advice please!!!! :con? 😮
*UPDATE* - When attaching my phone to NSS, this is what it finds when scanned;

However, when trying to do anything, it just says error.... HELP
Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but all I can think of is to try doing a Hard Reset on the phone - which basically wipes the phone settings etc clean.
To do a Hard Reset, turn the phone on while holding down the Call, *, and number 3 buttons.
Thanks...have tried that to no avail.
I think some people said they took the battery out etc...then reconnected and it was able to flash the phone again...but NSU says phone needs to be on and in the general profile....
Anyone...HELP! lol.
Because your phone cannot initialise, NSS is picking it up as a Service Flash device (a phone that needs to be flashed through hardware, not the Nokia software USB drivers).
Basically, NSS is proving the point - the phone is a little dead, but easily recoverable with the right people/tools.
Sorry...
Adding to that:
If this is what I think it is, then this is the first case I've heard of a Nokia BB5 handset that's been bricked just by a corrupt user flash area...
Weird

Well I wouldn't put anything past a Nokia handset!! They are very buggy!
Luckily, 3 took my phone back yesterday and it's due to return to me tomorrow, so they've obviously repaired it...shame is that it'll come back with v 2.xx firmware on it!
I've read on here that people had bluetooth faliures with this firmware, but my TomTom & GPS never had a problem, before and after the update!
I just hope this time, I don't have problems again! ...Otheriwse i'll have to update my firmware again and don't want to risk another brick!
3 told me it's Nokia that update the firmware, and not themselves...and that I have the most up to date firmware (bo****ks) so looks like a waiting game!
Oh it's on Three? That explains it
Just a matter of questionisation - I have a 3 N73 - if I hard reset, I take it it'll just go back into 'as new from 3 mode' with all the 3 stuff on it, not being a nice, fluffy Nokia unbadged unit?
