hi all, as some of you may know i recently got a new handset through orange via the insurance as my old one stopped charging properly, well my new handset was fine, i didn't like the orange branded firmware so i updated to n80ie latest firmware, everything flashed fine via nss after changing the product code, so i go through all the options setting my phone up to how i have it, i turn on bluetooth so i can send my favorite apps and games and nothing, my pc cannot see my phone anymore, other phones cannot see my phone, my phone cannot see my pc or any other phones! whats going on? i have restarted my pc and my n80 many times, it is visible in the BT settings, it turns on and shows the icon it just wont find any other devices or be found by any other devices! i don't know if it worked before the upgrade as i never tried it but could it be a hardware fault? are they any programs that can check for a hardware fault? i have tried a factory reset and also a format, still not working 😞 i don't want to have to call orange again as it was enough trouble last time and i'm sure they will charge me the fee they kindly waived last time, help!

Not sure about you problem, but they CANT charge you a fee if the phone is still under the manufacturers 12 month warranty if there is a manufacturers fault with it.
If they try to charge you a fee and wont do anything about your problem unless you pay them, then make a claim with claims online.....see how quick they will sort the problem out then for free 😊..
thanks i will keep that in mind if i need to send it back to them, but i will try and sort the problem out for now, last resort is to phone them again! 😞

I know you have probably done this, but in case you didn't did you set to "show to all" in the bluetooth settings ?
haha yes is set to show to all, there is some kind of problem elsewhere, my phone cannot see any other devices even though other devices see each other and my pc 😞
and... just in case you havent tried it... turn the bluetooth off, then turn your phone off...
then turn it back on and turn the BT back on too...
worth trying again, even if you have done it... unless you have done it 100 times already! 😉
thanks for the help but i have turned it on and off, hidden on and off, changed the bluetooth name many times, nothing seems to work 😞
looks like you might have to do what you dont want to then... unless you can pop down to a NCC or call Nokia careline and find someone there knows something noone else does :frown:
looks like im going to have to call them again, just reflashed and still no BT, i wish i had tried before i changed to the IE firmware, but probably wouldn't have worked if its not working now *sigh* lets see what orange have to say
right, so the losers at orange say because its not a network fault i have to take it up with nokia?! i should have just kept my original phone and put up with the crappy charger cos this one stil has the charging problem AND no bluetooth!
you need to don your 'Im gonna complain my a$$ off now' hat and call them back and speak to the managers manager. If they have sold you a product that you have had to take back AND been given another one that doesnt work as it is sold its against the trades description. I suggest you inform them that you are going to report the company to the trading standards officer in your locality... (BTW, it is worth calling them (Trading standards) up and telling them about your problems with Orange. I had great fun doin it with my guy down in Reading he really did some work on it)
Either way, your getting treated appalingly. You should be well with in your rights to go apesh1t with someone in customer services... (just make sure they understand that you arent having at go at them personally... just the company) Orange complaints with the N80 are amazingly high.
"hello orange"
"hi i've just called up 10mins ago about a problem with bluetooth and the guy i spoke to told me to take it up with nokia as it wasnt an orange problem, but i've just been intouch with trading standards and they told me you are responsible for it as the contract is with you not nokia"
"well thats because we dont support bluetooth as its losing revenue for orange, everytime you send a ringtone to your friends its losing us money thats why we dont support it"
WTF!!!!!
she asked what i was trying to do via bluetooth i said anything to do with BT wouldnt work she kept saying the same shit then she said they only support bluetooth when its being used with keyboards or headsets so i said well what if i decide to use a headset in future its not going to work cos bluetooth dont work is it? that made her think then she said well if i put u through to somebody they will ask you what make and model headset i have so i told her put me through to a manager, then after 10mins on hold she says theres nobody available and can they call me back later, i would stay and sort it but ive just finished work and i need to get some sleep, i will let you know how it goes, and i will be ending my contract with orange after this performance, well done OCS
OMG!!😮
It a wonder they can stay in business with an attitude like that... sleep well Jaffa-cake! 😉
See what your next day brings!
* Im kinda fancying eating some jaffa cakes now... down to tesco it is then!*
*note* maybe I should go to my local store instead of tesco... although they are opposite each other and tesco is cheaper... MMMmmm 😎

They are bullsh*tting you, as the seller they have a responsibility to repair the phone NOT Nokia. If they start blabbing on and trying to fob you off tell them you know your consumer rights on this issue because you have contacted trading standards and the office of fair trading and if they dont sort it out in 7 days then you will have no option to make a cliam in the small claims court for breach of contract on their side, follow this up with an email and also a registered letter.
I will try find the text in the consumer law for you where it states this, so you can add it into your email and letter to them..

I actually find this fun also when it comes to taking the big boys on.....its also a very good learning experience because you actually can find out what rights you do have as a consumer 😊..
The important thing here is to make it known very strongly when you speak to them that you WILL be making a claim in the small claims court via claims online if they dont sort it out WITHIN 7 days, and follow up with an email and a letter...and dont be afraid of all the bull they will try and give you to get out of this.
and finally actually go through with the process, as I said before it costs about 50 quid, but you can claim this back as costs in the summons 😊..
yup... it is a good learning curve, and clearly one that Orange need to learn somemore.
Orange v. Jaffa-Cake..
theres a tango theme to this one:banghead:
right, i got those tossers at orange to send me a new k800i at no charge to me
😮 YOU TRAITOR!!! 😉
Good job tho!! Glad to see you got it resolved to your satisfaction!:icon14:
hehe well it was either a refurbished n80, and still keep the faulty charger as they didn't have any replacements in stock, or a brand new k800i! so i decided to try another make as i've had nokias since the 8310, i will let you know what i think about it compared to the n80 as im quite used to the symbian OS by now.
btw, does anybody know of a forum like this or nokiafree but for SE phones, all my links are for symbian phones
Jaffa-cake wrote:btw, does anybody know of a forum like this or nokiafree but for SE phones, all my links are for symbian phones
Its a double edged sword..... you have broken away from Nokia ... but you have left the best mobile phone (n80 forum) community on the planet ....
Apart from a few people making the odd stupid comment, this forum has ben the best and most helpfull forum I have ever used ...I have gained so much knowledge and experience from others on this forum that makes my N80 more usable, and saves me money 😊..
Haha very interesting thread... Glad everything worked out for you, Jaffa-cake.
Take care,
KiN.
yeah, new over reconditioned ... should be a sensible choice... tho with Orange... maybe your better off playing safe and getting one someones actually done some work on to get it working.... although sayin that, maybe the person that did the work on it is as disillusioned as you are with the company!! OOHH MAN!! 😉
well i recieved my phone on friday, and its taking a bit of getting used to because i've used symbian phones for so long, but one thing i do know is that java games are A LOT faster to load up and play on this phone, also the camera is a lot better at taking photos and easier to switch between video/picture, but the video quality is rubbish compared to the n80, and i have to buy yet another memory card because its different to my n80's one!

wow .. video quality worse than the N80....I didnt think that was possible 😉..
yeah, if it is worse then theres absolutely no point in using it!
the quality is like 6680, but i really liked the sound on the videos recorded on n80, very good quality, but i found another forum for my new phone and have sucessfully flashed my phone to generic away from crappy orange again 😊 also a lot of mods and tweaks for this phone, so i am happy 😉
and also all the games i had collected for my n80 (java ones) all work great on this phone, AND theres an option to choose the screen size of a game, so no more games in a corner like on n80 😉
good news...
I only really seem to play WSOP and Sims on my phone... so havent come accross any issues wuth incorrect screen sizing. 😊
