Does anyone know where the added favorites are stored,I want to keep them after a firmware upgrage.
A TOMTOM 6 question
I have TT6 installed to my OEM MMC and upgraded to N80ie last night with NSS and NSU... my favourites are still there... so I assume that the destination is stored in the s/w on the MMC.
did you just back up all your phone and mmc card data, flash the phone and then re-insert your backup, or did you start from scratch and re-install all the software again?
I have tomtom and games and stuff installed on the MMC. I just took it out and then upgraded.
Resync'd to get my contacts back via PC Suite and re-installed a couple of programs via BT and PCSuite.
Re inserted my MMC and the games and tomtom were were I left them on the previous F/W version. Just had to do a little moving around to adjust the phone back to how it was when it was a plain old N80. Job done... 15 mins.
Right so do you reckon any program/software that is installed onto the memory card will automatically work when the phone is upgraded? Its just that I thought there would be stuff installed onto the phone as well. i.e. you install say tomtom onto your memory card but there are also tomtom files installed onto your phone memory which will be deleted after a firmware upgrade... So just to confirm every thing you installed onto your mem card was all there and working. Its just that I have a lot of software installed on my phone, and dont really fancy installing it all again just yet....
well, it would be daft for me to confirm and you to listen to me when I say I had no prblems getting everything back cause as we know N80's can take on a life of their own and you may do something/have something different to me.😎
BUT,
I have TT6, 30 odd games, Spoton, Zip, DivX, YBrowser, barcode reader, WLAN wiz, plus a load of albums, pictures etc
I didnt do any back up at all on the phone. I removed the MMC, upgraded and reinserted the MMC. Got the installing program message on boot and that put tomtom back, and my games.
It didnt put back items installed to the phone... such as ybrowser, spoton, Wlan wiz, div x, and some themes I also had.
So it looks like so long as the program is stored on your MMC, the phone will see that its installed there and reinstall what it needs to on the handset.
It wasnt a problem for me to reinstall any apps via PCSuite so I has happy to run that risk.
Hope that helps.
from experiance with upgrading and reformating the n80, i have found that some apps stored on the card dont work after a reformat/ upgrade, the best way is to back it all up and reformat everything and start again from scratch. -some people are lucky and dont have problems tho.

so there you go Jedi... a definative... DO YOU WANT TO TAKE THE RED PILL OR THE BLUE PILL?? 😉
LOL!!!!!!!!!! Not sure what to do now, I`ve never had a problem with my N80 so far its been very stable/faultless, and ive got pure software loaded onto it. Now that N80 i.e. is available over NSU I really wona do it, but don`t fancy installing all my apps again, not yet anyway....I would really like to start a fresh, but i`m thinking this will take some time getting my phone back to where it was. Is ie a whole lot better that the latest standard N80 firmware.😉
in a word... NO... al18ex has just asked that very question. 😊
I said I wasnt going to do it too mind you... then one day... I had nothing better to do so thought Id have a play... and I have bricked an N80 already... so it was almost FUN! 😉
Hmmmm might leave it for a while as my N80 runs like a dream, Some one said the new ie firmware improves the camera pic quality is this true, as im not to overly happy with some of the pics it churns out.

a little ...but not much ...not worth risking if this is the only thing you are concerned about ..
not too sure...I hate the slow a$$ camera so cant confirm either way, but I doubt its worth the upgrade
well thats it then mind made up, i`ll hang on to me standard N80 until something super duper comes out, of if a spare N80 comes my way i`ll try the upgrade on that. thanks again peeps

I am pretty sure that in the not too distant future you will be able to upgrade the firmware officially from NSU without changing the product code...its not reasonable for Nokia to withhold this upgrade as the phone hardware is exactly the same, I guess it will be available if they withdraw the standard N80 from sale, or the price of the N80ie is in line with the standard N80.
