Trying to set up btopenworld email

7 replies · 2,031 views · Started 24 January 2007

Hi,
I'm on 3, have an N80 and trying to set up my email to receive and reply from btopenworld. Has anyone managed this?

I understand 3 use imap4 and btopenworld use pop3. Does that end the attempt??

thanks
Paul

kontraband wrote:nope, N80 can use both POP and IMAP... first question it asks you when you set a new mailbox up is that.

so do i need to set up the incoming or outgoing mail settings? Sorry I'm a numpty on email!

you need to set both up...

your incoming should be something like mail.btopenworld.com or pop.btopenworld.com
and
your outgoing should be the same as your current ISP is... for for example...
smtp.btopenworld.com

Both incoming and outgoing mail servers are mail.btinternet.com.

User name and password are the same you'd use to access your email online.

Not sure what access points 3 have, I'm on Vodafone and found you have to use the 'Vodafone ISP' access point, 'Vodafone WAP' didn't work so that's something to bear in mind if you have similar choices.

I have a BT Openworld account and for the receive section, you need to use mail.btinternet.com. For the sending side of things, O2 wouldn't let me use BTinternet and so I have to use theirs, as in smtp.O2.co.uk. Maybe 3 are teh same.

Nope I can't open my btopenworld email on 3. Checked with them yesterday. Bit sick of 3 cos they aren't very good on things like this!
thanks for your help guys.
