You will be waiting a long time I am afraid, there are big problems getting it to work with synbian, and also there may be a problem with network operators blocking skype from accessing their network because of loss of revenue.

well I am trying to get away from using skype, its very restrictive, and also trying to get my friends family and collegues to use sip based VOIP...
Skype is kind of old technology these days for VOIP
yeah, the skype and google talk and the likes are private standards... SIP is shared standards which from a network admin point is wayyy better... its also cheaper for landline outbound calls it seems for many...
More people should use SIP, but skype /google etc has the advertising revenue to pull the users...
WOW..thanx i just put fring on my n80 and i got all my skype contacts and stuff on my PHONE!!!!!!!!!...THNX GUYS!!!!!!!!!
No worries!! 😊
It works great!!
Thanks for the recomendation. Now I can use slype from my N80 when I'm travelling (quite often unfortunately)
BTW, I have the following FW:
v4.0623.0.42
20-09-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (01)
Is it the so called N80ie?. Sorry but after reading a lot here (sure I haven't found the right post) I don't have clear if this is SIP enabled or not, well more than if it is SIP enabled (I know it is because I can setup SIP profiles) if I can make SIP calls using any SIP server.
Could you clarify me please?

N80ie firmware is SW4.0632.0.38
Ths standard N80 is sip enabled, but doesnt have the built in client that is needed to use the sip functionality, so you are unable to use integrated sip functionality, although you can use a third party sip client like tivi to make sip calls.
Thanks cash.
Very clear, just but I need to know
I love this forum!! Its great!
Seems skype have no interest in pushing forward the development of skype for symbian, or is this just a cover for the fact that they cant get it to work, or maybe they are under pressure from telco's to not develop skype for sysmbian because of financial reasons..., or maybe they just cant be bothered....

anyway I dont care ..Fring works fine for me 😊..
yeah Fring is all good for me at the moment... and I noticed in the forum over there that the support more or less to the word said, if one version is working for you... dont bother to upgrade... I thought that was pretty refreshing.... if a little strange! 😉
The CNet report is a bit of a mixed bag. It talks of USA and UK which both operate on very different carrier terms, and as many phones dont work on wifi, not entirely relevant at the moment to have skype on a mobile as it would cost the earth to actually use, so the comment about it being free but they dont want users to receive a massive net usage bill at the end of the month, does stand true.
I think sypke/ebay are just hiding the fact that to make it work how they wish... i.e. to generate some revenue and look good, is gonna take more effort than they may have anticipated.
Id leave a comment about Fring, but I cant be arsed to register! Plus, it kinda feel like a little secret at the moment... that I dont want to share with the entire world 😡
