This thread included a poll: Which conversion format do you use in Nokia Music Manager ?

M4A - Mobile Optimised (48 kbps)
Just because its the one suited for my mobile..
But its not too bad i suppose..

i am able to convert mp3 into aac , however, whenever trying to convert to mp4 format- it gives me an error. I am using Pc suite 6.80.22:con?

I often use the original MP3 format or else convert to AAC 160 kbits.
You have to have some quality man, 48 kbits is way to crap!

I want my N73 ME though to include the album art in the songs copied to my phone, but it doesn't work.
You have to copy the jpg covers on to the N73 and then map the cover to each album manually. This sucks!

Whilst any form of compression is going to lower quality, I did some A/B tests between all available formats and didn't notice a major difference between AAC & M4A. The formats with the least compression did have slightly more "oomph", but I personally find the M4A 48kbps to be quite adequate and far from "crappy".

What makes a real difference is the earphones that you use. Those that come supplied with the N73 aren't really up to much and I hate those style of in the ear phones as they never fit properly and cause my ears to ache after about 20 minutes. So I ordered the Nokia AD-41 headset adapter which come with the silicon bud type earphones. These are my favourite type of earphones as they sit really snugly in my ears, block out virtually all external noise and are very lightweight. However, the supplied Nokia earphones are very poor quality, so I purchased a set of Creative EP630's and they have transformed the Music Player on this phone 😊 Deep, rich bass, clear mids and highs and beautifully comfortable to wear.

All my tracks are in M4A 48kbps which allows me to get a lot of stuff on my 2GB card (well over 1100 tunes with TomTom and loads of games and apps) and make the slightest of sacrifices in sound quality.

Let's be honest, if you want top audio quality, you're not going to listen to music on any MP3 player, but what I have now is a perfectly acceptable compromise, especially as the latest ME update fixed the annoying bug where the EQ reset itself every time you powered up 😊

Thanks to everyone for their input :icon14:

P.S. as for album art, I agree that it hasn't been implemented well on the N73. The most annoying thing for me is that when you upgrade firmware, even if you back everything up, all the album art disappears, along with other tag entries made on the phone after transfer.

Yes i agree, I also bought the Nokia AD-41 set and quickly replaced the in-ear phones with a pair of quality Philips set. The sound and bass is much better. I still prefer more than 48 kbits still but that's your choice 😉

The newest firmware finally saves the EQ settings, but looking for a fix for the album art still!
