Weird alarm/power on quirk w/the 'system time update' option activated

Some of you may recall my post about the weird issue I was having with my alarm. Basically I would set my alarm for 8:00am and if I woke up at 7:00am I would power the phone on in case someone was trying to reach me and go back to sleep. With all of my old Nokia phones the phone would power on and when the alarm time came around the alarm would sound. With my e70 I would power it on and even if before the alarm time the alarm would sound and I would have to turn it off and reset the alarm. I thought this was an issue with the new phone and it's alarm but I believe I've discovered the problem. I happened to watch the phone one morning and for a split second as it registered with the system I saw the time go from the current time, to exactly one hour ahead and then finally back to the current time. In this split second error the alarm would go off because for that second or so it WAS time to sound the alarm. So, it's not the alarms fault... it's the auto time adjust feature.

For whatever reason the phone wants to adjust the time ahead an hour before correcting itself when it powers on. What is causing this? I disabled the auto set by system feature and it's solved but this is a band aid fix for the real problem. What is causing this and how can I fix this? It seems as though it's a firmware glitch more than anything and is most likely out of my control.

Input and ideas are greatly appreciated.

It is also possible that it is an Operator glitch. I had a very strange problem with my old phone, a Nokia 6310i retated to the "network time" option. Every few months the network would set the time for several hours different from the actual time. Once I was late to work because during the night the time on my phone was set to something like 6 hours earlier that the actual time where I live. When I figured out what was going on I specified that the the phone should notify me before changing the time and sure enough a few weeks later it happened again. I eventually had to disable the network time option because I could not rely on it to be correct. I believe (not certain) that this may be the result of an incorrect time being sent by the operator, in my case Cingular. I have not observed this behavior with my E60 but I am also in a different location now, about an hour south of where I used to live.

That's a good point. Being late for something because of a stupid network glitch would certainly suck and for that reason I think my days of being lazy w/my clock are over. I'll just manually change it for DST and when traveling. Problems solved I suppose.
