Installing and removing MMC card

Do I need to remove the battery before I remove or install the MMC card? Will I have loss of data? I ask this as I seem to lose some files when I do a hot swap of the MMC card without removing the battery for my 9300i.

regards

According to Nokias own description the memory card is fully hot-swapable, so it is not neccesary to remove the battery or turn off the phone.

The hot-swap appears to be realised through a small switch that detects when you remove the lid and in this case probably raises a flag in the OS or something like that - which is also the reason why the phone will not accept an inserted card untill you put the lid back on.

The only cautionary text in the 9300 user guide about removal of the memory card is the following...

Important: Do not remove the MMC card in the middle of an operation when the card is being accessed. Removing the card in the middle of an operation may damage the memory card as well as the device, and data stored on the card may be corrupted

So one should probably not have the file manager open or be running a program installed on the card while removing it. But otherwise there is no indication of anything special that one needs to do before removing it. So I have no idea why you have been losing data this way...

Thanks. I believe I did not close the apps when I removed the card. I will try it in the next couple of days. BTW. I do not think for the 9300i, the lid needs to be put on before the card is detected. I will double check this.
